I'm looking for opinions from other barrel racers. If you had to pick between platinum performance regular(not CJ) or smartpak ultra pellets; which would you go with. I have my boys on both and feel it's excessive and unnecessary. But can't decide which to stick with.

I have fed Platinum for about 6 years now. My trainer feeds another supplement but when she took my horse to Dr Honnas, he said that all young horses needed to be on Platinum. I think Smart Pak has a good product but Platinum is just a little better.

I'm another vote for Platinum- Smartpak has good supplements, but Platinum surpasses it, IMO.

I'm a huge SmartPak fan, but for just a basic all-around Platinum may be better. If you want joint supplements, though- SmartPak is my choice. Very happy with how they help my arthritic mare.

What can you add to Platinum for stomach ulcers though?

LOVE Platinum!! After I put my horse on it he was running harder and clocking faster, and then I took him off of it towards the end of the season because I lay him off most of winter and he wasn't running as hard as he was while on it. Can't wait to get him back on it!!

Yes, both is extremely excessive. I'd probably go with Platinum but FWIW, my horse looks and feels significantly better on no supplements (except flax) and a more natural, whole food diet than he did with any processed feeds and supplements, including platinum.

I am at the same cross roads. I have 1 mare that needs a daily ulcer sup and tendon, and 1 that needs daily hormone support and I want both on a joint supp. I am currently using smart pak for everything and honestly, its not cheap but it works.... The ulcer is $60, the tendon is $60, the hormone is $20 and the Joint is $10 (MSM only because I use injectables mainly). So, $150/mo on supps alone. I would happily use platinum if they could cover all bases for less but I know the smartpak is working...
