| My family had to lay our 13 year old husky to rest this morning. I brought him home from a horse show all those years ago at 17. He became my family's beloved house dog. Was a HUGE part of our life. Was a child the last time I lost a dog. Feels like a good chunk of the heart goes along with them.
Makes me feel like the pain of losing them would make it easier to not have one to love.
MY dog now is like my child and it just reminds how short our time with them really is.
 Just kind of hating everything right now. |

Location: Mississippi | It is SO tough. I had to put my 14 year old lab down last October and we lost our other 12 year old lab this March. We do not have kids and our dogs are really our children. Alot of people don't understand! I am so sorry you and your family are going through this as it is never easy no matter what age they are. Hugs and prayers!!! |

Location: Oregon | I'm so sorry for your loss.... It is definitely so hard to lose them and although the pain never goes away, it does get easier over time. So sorry.

Location: Northwest Florida | I'm so sorry. I recently lost my aussie/heeler puppy unexpectedly at only 6 months. I'm sure it doesn't leave quite a hole as a losing a 17 year old best friend would, but to lose one at any time is difficult. You gave him a long, happy 17 years and he was so lucky to spend his whole long life with his one person! You will see him again. So sorry. |

| So very sorry! We have a 10 year old lab who's looking rather gray with some other small health problems. It's heartbreaking to know he won't be around forever. He was my first "child" as we've decided we don't want human children.

Location: Phoenix | It sucks. We lost 2 dogs last year and definitely wasn't expecting it. My little girl had an accident with a hawk or coyotes and we couldn't remedy her injuries to save her. She was MINE....she'd stay up and wait on the couch for me if I stayed out late. She was so precious. It definitely makes you think twice about getting another. Hugs!!!! |

| ahhhh HUGS. Smile that they were a fantastic part of your family. It is extremely hard, but eventually you learn to live with the loss. The little things will get you once in a while and you'll fondly remember a moment with that dog. Share those moments, treasure that they had a great life with you and that you did your best for them.
I had to put down my BC, who was only 9. We have a "dog wall of fame" in our house, complete with great one of a kind drawings, memorial shelves for their collars, and some randomly great snap shots printed out and stuck up there too. |

He was almost like a bridge back to my teenage years... like not much has changed because he was still around. I remember that horse show like yesterday. My dad and I knew we'd probably be in trouble with my mom, but we brought him home anyway.

Yes most of us have been where you are many times over, and it just does not get any easier, I"m 57 years old and it still hurts like the dickens when I lose one of my pets.

| So sorry for your loss and yes it does get easier but never forgotten. I lost my Corgi 2 years ago and I still miss him. People asked when I was going to get another and I just couldn't bring myself to do it just yet. I would look but never would go see in person. Then a couple of months ago this white colored bouncing ball of furr was jumping through the grass and the next morning when I got up and went to the back patio there was this Simese baby kitten that I guess someone had dropped off. I was talking to a friend of mine and was telling her the store and she thinks that this kitten came instead of a dog. Not sure if I am saying this very well, but kind of like when we lose something like a pet for some reason out of no where there is another pet in need of us. I know he sure has gotten me out of the dumps a time or two. He is so funny. So what I am trying to say is hang in there, it does get easier. |

He was a lucky pup to be so loved and cherished. |

Location: The edge of no where | Lost my mini aussie 1-1/2 years ago at 13, saying goodbye to her was one of the hardest things I've ever done. She was my constant shadow and best friend. I still laugh thinking about the places I took her that really probably didn't allow dogs, but she never got kicked out (including my work). I got her at 5 weeks and she really helped me get thru some very difficult times. I cry every time I see someone with a red tri that looks like her. I did adopt another little aussie so my toy wouldn't be alone - he went into grieving as much as I did. She's a great dog, it's not the same....but she needed a loving home and we enjoy having her around. Good dogs just take a big chunk of your heart when they leave. So sorry for your loss, it's just difficult. Don't let it keep you from giving another dog a great home tho. |

Location: 31 lengths farms | Thinking of you...I still miss my mom's old JRT as much today if not more than when we had to have her put down at 19 a year and a half ago. Her grave is next to my bay mare's and those sit right next to the edge of the trotting track my fiance worked up for me. Its a tradition to honk to them as I leave the yard and again when I get home. |

Location: Red Raiderland | Oh I so know that pain and I am sorry you are going through such an awful time. Everyone on here has said most everything that I would say. I lost my sweet "Liaka" Dachshund in 2007 and before she died I had gotten another one, Kaycee(my namesake on here) and she NEVER replaced Liaka but boy she found another spot in my heart as well as my little red Dachshund, Heidi. I still miss Liaka and always will but the two I have now fill my heart with such joy. I am getting a little worried as they are now 9 and 11 and starting to show their age. It is part of having dogs/cats/horses in our lives, they will more than likely go before us. Take care of yourself and know you are not alone. |

| It's never easy. I lost Walker 3 years ago. He was my constant companion when I was rodeoing full time. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't miss him. It gets easier but you never forget. |

Location: Arkansas | I'm so sorry for your loss---when I read this I looked over at MY Husky lazing on the couch. I cannot imagine the day when I have to say goodbye. I've lost dogs and cats thru the years and it breaks my heart every time. I just have an extra soft spot for Huskies, I think. Like someone else said, I hope you get some solace in the fact that you rescued him and gave him a wonderful live. I truly feel that sometimes our kids leave us at a time when another animal needs us. So they go and wait for us to be with them in the future in order that we may help another furry angel. . . .
Do you have any pictures you would share with us? What was his name? I am sending many prayers for comfort for your family during this time. |

Location: Florida.. | IM so sorry.. I am struggling with this now with my 13 yr old rottie..Ive had her for 13 yrs .. I just am being selfish and pray for a miracle when she was young and carefree again.. its one of the hardest things to do yet the kindest when its their time. hugs..

| I am not ready to share a picture. His name was Kita. pronounced keeta. I called him banana or kitty. dumb, but don't we always come up with ridiculous secondary names for our pets?

The vet couldn't figure out what happened, but he got into something and it destoryed his liver. Judge would love to sleep belly up, long legs in the air and snore.... he was my cuddler and so very kind and gentle. It was very unexpected.

| I am so sorry for your loss. It is amazing how these 4 legged creatures can fill our hearts and homes. I gave my husband an Aussie pup for his 40th BD, she is now 13 and was diagnosed last month with cancer. We are approaching "that decision" much faster than I anticipated. I shed a few tears daily as we spoil her rotten with the little time left we have. |
