Location: 31 lengths farms | Serena Williams, who beat out American Pharoah for Sportsman of the year just pulled out of a 5K race...had to hail a cab back to the finish line. Bet AP would have finished ;-) |

| While I agree that American Pharoah is an amazing athlete and may well have deserved the Sports Illustrated title, I think it's ridiculous to discredit Serena Williams based on this single event. She has achieved so much in her career and who knows what the circumstances were at this race? She could have been sick, etc. |

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | to me the issue is, they held a vote. If I understand correctly AP won the vote. And still lost HUH? That would be like having the Presidental election and still getting stuck with Obama again...oh wait that did happen LOL. Sorry, trying to be funny. But if it is true that AP won the vote, he should be Sportsman of the year. |

Location: In the Hills of Texas | American Pharoah has won the online readers’ poll for Sports Illustrated’s 2015 Sportsman of the Year, topping 11 other candidates across all major sports as the one who embodied the spirit of sportsmanship and achievement this year. The three-year-old colt ended a 37-year Triple Crown drought with a huge win in the Belmont Stakes—the 12th Triple Crown winner in history. He completed his career with a 6 1/2 length win in the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic in his final start before heading off to the breeding shed. American Pharoah won 47% of the vote when the poll closed on Saturday night. The Kansas City Royals came in second place with 29% of the vote and Lionel Messi finished in third place with 6% of the vote. American Pharoah also beat out Stephen Curry (4%), Jordan Spieth (3%), Simone Biles (2%) and Carli Lloyd (2%). |

Location: 31 lengths farms | That was my take on the "vote" also. AP won it in the poll yet Serena won the the "title". To me kind of takes the shine off of it a bit. Have nothing against her, great athlete for sure, I just like the 4 legged one a bit more for this year. |

| I was not aware that AP received the most votes. In that case, he absolutely should have been given the title. What was the point in conducting the poll if it did not count toward anything? |

Thought I read the "popular vote" would be taken into consideration but final decision was to be made by someone associated with the magazine?? |

Straight horses cannot compete with the editorial standards of Sports Illustrated ..
SI is too busy supporting and promoting other agendas ...

That is what I read also, after the fact. This is exactly why I prefer timed events to judged events, LOL!!! |

My problem with Serena is, when the going gets tough, she backs out. No respect from this corner for her. As long as she's on top, everything is hunky dorey. When she gets beat by a lesser known rival; she goes into hiding. AP should have won it. |

Yes. They held it to a vote, AP won by a LANDSLIDE and thain they said he couldn't be the winner because he wasn't a person. UMMMM THEN WHY MAKE HIM A CANDIDATE AND ALLOW THE PUBLIC TO VOTE!?!?!?!?!? |
