Location: North Dakota | Hubby and I are the new owners of 130 acres!

I am just thrilled. More land than I ever imaged we would have. My two horses are going to be spoiled rotten. Right now it's just one huge pasture so it's a clean slate! It will be a wonderful future home for us, and future home for my horses. So excited!! (And plenty of room for a pony for our future baby, due in June.)
I've got so many "dream big" plans in my head. We're in no rush to build so we're going to take our time planning and getting fencing put in to split it up. There's a nice big dam on the SE corner, so we can build a house into the backside of the hill to overlook the dam and have shelter from the cold north winds in the winter. Should be plenty of room for a barn and indoor arena there too, and I have a nice flat spot on top of the hill for an outdoor arena in the summer. Granted, probably won't have the money to build everything at once, but I can always leave space for "future expansion". And the NW corner is great for haying. Guy we bought it from says he gets 40 round bales even on a bad year, which is way more than I'll ever need.
I'd say this is a pretty good Christmas present ... to myself! Be prepared for lots of posts in the future about how I should do the layout!

| CONGRATS!!! I share your excitement, we bought an 80 in May, moved into the old farm house in June, and are madly building more fence, cleaning up and planning where the new barns will go this spring. There are many older, useable buildings that are great for storing farm equipment and hay but I'm planning the horse barn and arena for the spring!! |

   Location: KS | Ah!! Congrats!
It's a good feeling when you know something is yours.
My husband a I built a house last year, on an old farmstead, we've pretty much have torn everything out and starting over, its hilly. But we moved in this past March and garage is going up this week. The worse part is waiting and wanting. We are also young and have our whole lives, but I just want it all done now, lots, working facilty, etc. Were nine months in and house and garage are what we accomplished this year, just really ready for a yard and some grass!! Im anxious to what it will look like in 10 years.
Good Luck to you guys and it is a big deal to be able to make something from the ground up!
And my horses are in electric fence, which works for them, my husband does plan to build continuous fence around most of it this coming year.

| Very exciting, congrats!!! We just moved into our new house, it is the third one we have built. Houzz.com is a GREAT website for ideas. I did the floor plan but copied pictures off of houzz for the finishes etc. It made the process so much easier to show a picture and say this is what I want. Congrats on the new baby too- big changes!!!

Location: North Dakota | Thank you! Yes, I'm actually very excited there is nothing on it. That means nothing we have to tear down. The only thing we will have to do is something with the existing perimeter fence, as it's currently barbed wire. So we'll have to change that out.
Fortunately, hubby works as a project manager for a home building company ... so we're covered there for building purposes!
I had always imagined we'd find 40 acres somewhere, so I am on cloud nine with 130. And it's so close to town. We really were not ready to buy or had even been looking, but this opportunity fell into our lap and we'd be stupid not to take advantage of it, so we did! Makes it even more fun that the people that bought the 160 next to us is also a fellow barrel racer. Nice to know we'll have good neighbors! |

Awesome!! My husband builds apartments so he built ours too. It was so nice using his subs, they went above and beyond to get it right. We have 100 acres that perimeter fencing is barb wire, we did not change it, horses seem to respect it. I do have an 8 acre pasture that I fenced with coated wire fencing, I put them in there at night if the weather is good. |
