So my stud colt is coming 2, and he's not fully dropped yet. He's the first colt out of my mare, I've only had fillies so far, so I don't know much. Should I be concerned or is he just a late bloomer? I'm worried about him being a crypt orchid

My guy dropped a little after turning one and was gelded 5 months after that. Best of luck

Hey may not be a true crypt, he may have a shorter cord and this is why he hasn't completely dropped.

I would suggest having a vet examine him and give you his/her opinion

When should you start to worry? We have a 18 month old that has only dropped one.

Colts are usually dropped at birth, on rare occasion they do it later. If you plan on having him gelded I would have a vet check him. I had a cryp done at my local vet and it cost $700 but he also had a hernia repaired at the same time.

Ask your local vets if they can do it before you call the big hospitals.

Yes! If you are worried have the vet look-all the years I worked at the vet clinic we had MAYBE 5% that were cryptorchid-the rest the owners just couldn't feel (or didn't know what they were doing) and were just normal castrations. A good vet will tell you the crypt is not necessary because they are a lot of work and sneaky/crooked vet will charge you for a crypt without looking first.....usually sedation helps the little fellars appear :)
