Ok I have a new horse I got in May. He fills out great in the summer but he gets alil visibility in the ribs during winter I'm finding out. He gets awesome quality hay and feed good hay with lysine and healthy coat. He has a big belly but still alil visibility. Can't see from afar but I can see up close when he walks. He is very very tall. 16hh and has lots of thoroughbred. He is on a regular worming program. Am I doin anything wrong or is it his body type. This is my first time to have a horse with lots of thoroughbred in him. He is registered quarter horse.

I've found those part TB/QH mix need lots more feed to keep their weight. I have one guy that has to have hay in front of him all the time or he will fret the weight off.
If he has a belly but still ribby maybe you need to switch up his deworming schedule. Have you tried the Panacur Powerpack? I've seen that make a difference.

Check to see how the de-wormers are doing with your horse by taking in some fecal to be checked for worm eggs. Talk to your vet about your horse. Your horses metabolism may be higher and I think more fat in the diet would help and Alfalfa.

If he's ribby with a big belly and his deworm schedule is regular and rotative he may require more protein in his diet in the winter. He needs more then just his hay to regulate his body temperature and maintain weight in the winter.
Add a supplement with fat and a good weight builder concentrate (check with local feed supplies for types available to you). Blanketing these types of horses also helps to maintain weight.

I have one that has a big belly and his is from lack of exercise. Make sure you are feeding enough. I have one horse that I have to up his feed in the winter to keep him filled out.
