My dad is considering breeding this mare (pedigree in link below) to A Streak of Fling for a 2107 foal. Just wondering what opinions are on this cross. The resulting foal would be for sale so he wants to make sure it's a marketable cross, although since the mare hasn't been run and has no earnings it will be less marketable than if she did (obviously). This would be her first colt and she just this past summer had her first 30 days of training, she is very athletic and smart so far. It's not a for sure thing, he's just doing some thinking.
Thanks for your opinion! Basically that's exactly what he's wanting to know. He doesn't want to make a poor investment and he doesn't want to end up with a poorly bred foal that won't appeal to anyone.
She's a pretty mare with a mediocre pedigree. Finish training her and see if you have something THEN she might be worth breeding with some performance points or money won on her record. Most ASOF sell super well but you'd get maybe 1/2 what anybody else would on a foal with the weaker bottom side than say someone who had own daughter (as versus granddaughter) of FG.
Great points! I was just explaining that to him the other day that a mare with earnings or proven as a producer is going to have a more marketable foal. Last we discussed he was planning to send her back to training in January. As far as showing her, not my dads cup of tea, so I would be the one showing and with being a busy mom and my husband travelling for work, I'm just not so sure I'd have the time to really get anything under her belt for a while. She's 5 so no futurities, but we still have time to make some accomplishments.
