Location: Cocoa, Florida | Was wondering if anyone has been following Jay Duffs post on barrel horse tack/swap in Florida of the 2 year old stallion that had encephalitis or west Nile and she was trying to raise funds to save him?
Apparently he's been down and not able to get up since the 18th, I'm reading all sorts of stuff now that she's a scammer? I don't know what to believe but I feel bad for the colt.
She needs a trailer to make a sling to keep him standing but im afraid at this point it's to late. |

Can you post a link to the page or go fund me that you're refering to? I haven't heard anything but would like to read up on it... GO Fund Me's scare me unless they're by someone I know or sponsored by an organization. I'm afraid to get scammed... |

| Yes! She was an admin on that group too. Lots of conflicting information coming in. A lot of people sent her money to help the colt. But some are saying the colt wasn't even sick to begin with. |

You're welcome. Apparently the admin of the facebook group set up a go fund me for a horse that was down with what appeared to be West Nile and used the money for other things rather than the care of the horse. The link I posted with the pregnant rescued momma dog was before all this happened. Interesting stuff.... Thanks for the tip OP, my afternoon was doomed to be boring before this post |

| One woman sent her $200 to help the colt. Others sent blankets, boots and bell boots etc etc
Also wanted to add about a month prior she was trying to stud the colt out on there... she deleted anyone who questioned the colts conformation and lack of papers .. I believe he is a Tennessee walker or something of that nature...

That's the way I read into it. She deleted a bunch of folks on that page that questioned anything. The colt was very much so NOT stud material.. Elvis was the colts name . |

Do you have a pic of the colt? I've heard he was sick when he was "rescued"? Any truth to that accusation?
Does anyone have any "real" evidence from a news station, reputable source, or from the police about the accusations? |

I have no idea.... first time I saw or heard of the colt was when I came across her trying to advertise him for breeding and I was curious because there was over 100 responses.
Then I saw where she was asking for prayers for him because he was down and since it was close to Christmas, she didn't have the money to get him the proper treatment. |

Hmmmmm.... Why would a "rescuer" rescue a horse with no way to get said rescue horse to veterinary care quickly?.... Poor planning... How did she get the horse? |

idk, I was just going off the screenshots that were posted on the Justice page. They even had screenshots of the vet making a comment stating he saw the horse once and didn't believe the horse would make a recovery. But they still insist on donations lol yet won't post a current picture of the colt.
Sounds like a scam |

I wasn't directing the question at anyone, just thinking out loud was all. It all sounds like a scam to me too, I was just wondering if anyone had any evidence yet that something had been done legally. Like contacting authorites, sending help for the colt, or any other measures instead of just facebooking and calling her out on lies.... |

The vet was contacted after his name had been thrown around by her. She had said ppl could send donations to him. He said he only went to see the horse bc he was in the area and she told him other vets had declined to come. He said the horse was down therefor he couldn't really do a thorough examination. He said he went no further bc she had no means to pay him for the visit. He stated if the horse is still alive and still down since his visit then there is irreparable damage and he will most likely need to be humanely euthanized.
When I see those posts about people asking for money...I just force myself to keep scrolling. She got a new saddle for Christmas but can't afford vet care? Ok. |

Shame shame
Where did you see this?
On her personal Facebook page she posted pictures Christmas morning. There was a huge spread for her little girl, along with a saddle for her from her husband/boyfriend. I understand not returning or limiting the child's Christmas if you're into lots of gifts, but idk. People are claiming she used the donated cash to fund her Christmas. I had seen her posts in FB prior to the sick horse debacle and knew better than to offer advice or money. I try not to judge but it was obvious she wasn't very educated when it comes to horses, and anytime someone would offer advice she would get hostile and delete them from the group. She would "rescue" thin horses and talk about giving them a new life but to me, they never seemed to get any fatter. Or she would ask questions she should be asking a vet and then have an excuse for every piece of advice someone offered. If I saw her name I kept scrolling!
Yall only think people on BHW can be bad at taking advice. FB is a jungle lol. I try to find good deals on used tack, but you have to weed through the advice posts to get to them!! |

Location: Cocoa, Florida | I don't want to post any of the screenshots or messages I was sent regarding the well being and updates of her horse but I will relay the info I got or know.... I posted this thread because I'm afraid she may be another Lydia culp or the start to one at least.
My best said when she heard the story and donated $25 to her PayPal account, as well as many many others, I did see the $200 post, $100 here $50 there, there were hundreds of comments posted. She also asked for a donation of SMB/splint boots so that when she got him in the sling his tendons would be supported. She also posted originally that she had pre paid for daily vet care from the said vet that only stopped by one time. Someone even posted a message on Facebook with a screenshot of him saying he was only there once to check out the situation.
Long story short, a friend of mine told me that she has personally tried to help her in the last but they were "new" horse owners and didn't know how to properly care for their horses thus putting a lot of debt and care into my friends hands until she finally washed her hands of it.
So why The heck would a novice horse owner get a 2 year old stud is beyond me. (I think there should be a law about that but that's another story)
I lurked on her page and her horses did not look that great, weight and health wise, but I don't know if they were rescued or what. I really try not to judge but in this case as the days went by something smelled super fishy.
I messaged her on Facebook asking if she had an update or got test results back yet confirming west Nile or encephalitis , she said no, which I do know they can take a while depending on what lab or vet they used.
The last pic I saw of him was him still on the ground covered in a blanket (my friend said because he's skin and bones). So he was still not up and at this point after being down so long he needs to be euthanized if he has not passed alreday.

Not only animals, some worthless humans use their own young kids. There was a mother that was useing her little girl to get money, mom was saying her little girl had cancer and ever shaved her head and sit up a gofund me account, she got busted, saw this on the news last week, I think this happen in San Antoino, sick bit*h to do something like this to her own baby. |

These animals are a LUXURY not a commodity, or status symbol. I see so many that scrape to make ends meat (I've been there but that's on me, I have no kids) and have multiple horses! I have to buy, train and sell just to keep what I have and I have a very good job and no children.

| Maybe when she realized she wasn't going to get rich breeding him, she had to come up with another plan. I also read in there somewhere she had trained the horse to lay and sit down.. but who knows.... thought it was very strange she had boots on him while he was layed out on the ground ... along with bell boots. |

Location: Somewhere else | Last I heard she was saying it wasn't West Nile that it was something else that the horse contracted from a mosquito. Said she is trying to get a trailer to move him to a place where they have sling hooked up so that they can get him up at least. She claims the horse is sitting up and is eating some and drinking water. But if the horse can't get up then how is she suppose to get it on a trailer to take it someplace to have it put in a sling. Said she needed the sling because Elvis is getting sores from laying on the ground for so long. Seems like this has been going on for a week at least. Not real sure how to take this girl, don't know if she is trying to help this horse or just trying to scam people. But if she is scamming people trying to get money, she is abusing that poor horse and she should be dealt with promptly. JMHO

| If any of you didn't get the result of the story, she did end up euthanizing Elvis after he was down for over 11 days AFTER the police got involved.
They gave her the choice of what would be felony animal abuse charges or euthanasia. Unfortunately they did not end up charging her...which they should have.
She had that blanket on him in the Florida winter heat...it had been highs of around 80 most of those 11 days, but she said it was "ok because the had a fan on him 24/7". The photo of him with those donated boots on were put on incorrectly as she had stated in her begging posts that she had never put boots on a horse and didn't know what they did.
She never had a GoFundMe because she said they "take too much"(the fees) and to just send her money to her Paypal. After the horse was euthanized she was questioned about the funds and stated that she did not have access to them because they were in the process of transferring from Paypal to her checking account(which can take 5-7 business days)...which was why someone was asking to help with the euthanasia bill.
After the "Justice For Elvis" facebook page was setup she threatened to sue for libel, slander, defamation of character as her boyfriend/husband's father is a lawyer. She was repeatedly told she would have no case and asked where she would find the fees if she couldn't even afford a vet for her dying horse.
All in all it was a messed up thing she did, and with her background it doesn't surprised me. |

What a horrible thing for that poor horse to endure. Special place in hell for certain individuals. . . . |

She probably needs money now for his funeral.
HOW in the WORLD people can live with themselves doing this kind of stuff is just beyond my comprehension. |

My guess is no...she's going to suddenly lose that money or lie about where it's gone. One person even put a saddle up for sale and was going to give her the money from it. I hope they chose not to, but I don't know if that person was ever contacted with the truth. Since she deleted everything and locked down her facebook profile I'm not sure who it was. |

Jay Duff did not pay for the euthanazia, someone else did, which is why they were asking for donations to help after the fact.
Several people BEGGED Jay to let them pay to have that horse euthanized but she wouldn't let them do it. These nice people were willing to pay to have this horse put out of his misery and she would say no. She would not let anyone send money to her vet(because she didn't have one), she just wanted people to Paypal her donations.
