| Sunday evening, my 64yo mom was leaving work and was robbed at gunpoint and the shot. Bullet entered her left hip, fractured a vertebrae and exited her right hip. Nerve damage is becoming apparent. I have news stations calling me for interviews, spending all day everyday at the hospital, completely overseeing her fundraising. I'm exhausted. Prayers for all its affected please!

She must have been so scared. And the low life didn't have to shoot her after taking her money. Spineless piece of you know what. I hope they catch him and he gets what he deserves. Sending up prayers for your mom's quick recovery. Physically and emotionally. |

Location: In the Hills of Texas | It breaks my heart reading this. I'm so tired of thugs taking advantage of older people.
Back in the late 60's, I worked at a big retail store in a big mall. They had the employees park way in the back. I told them if they wanted me to park back there at night..I wanted an escort to my vehicle and I got it. Some laughed at me until there were 3 women in a short amount of time that got robbed and raped going to their vehicles at night. I quit soon after and found a part time job closer to my parent's home in the country.
Prayers for healing. |

Location: Okemah,OK | My second cousin graduated from UT Knoxville with a degree in biochemistry in the mid 90's. She didn't know what she wanted to do next so she kept working her college job at Papa Johns. They had her as shift manager and one night she closed the store and took the deposit outside. I forget if it was a change in routine or not but a guy and his girlfriend pulled a gun on her when she got in her truck. She gave them the money and they shot her in the head and killed her. They caught him and asked him why he still shot her after he got the money.... He said she'd recognize him if they caught him. Made me stop working iffy jobs at gas stations and such real quick!

I think it's easy for us to have that "it won't happen to me" mindset but her death opened my eyes a ton! She was a straight laced, smart, athletic, studious, kind person. My mother and her father are first cousins and she was a year ahead of me in our high school. I had recently seen her out on a Friday night in our hometown and asked her what she was doing nowadays. She put her hand to her ear and said "Thank you for calling Papa Johns, how may I help you?". I will never forget that moment. I had a job at a gas station that summer during college and although I never closed, I did open before the sun came up a lot of times. It made me stop and think and I soon got a better /safer job. I know sometimes we have to take jobs we don't like or we are in situations that are sketchy but I sure hope to try to keep my daughter out of them if at all possible...... Bad things can happen to good people real quick! |

Location: That part of Texas | Oh man -- sending more prayers after seeing the pics. Have they got her on some good pain killers? I hope so to manage the pain she must be in.
I know that Uno-do-tres! mentioned being in contact with a crime victim's fund on page 2 and I was going to +1 on her suggestion. Usually you are put in contact with a crime victim advocate who works either through the PD or DA office to help get her in the system and get documentation on her bills to be paid by the fund. Please look into this if possible before you pay anything. If you are having problems getting in contact with these people, PM me and I will find them for you or otherwise help you out with getting in contact with them. |
