I've learned a LOT about KS and how to manage it since Cash was diagnosed nearly a year ago. But one thing I've never seen, is whether or not riding bareback would be ok. He has several SDP's along his back that are affected but the worst one is in his lumbar region far behind where a rider sits. With regular work under saddle on the lunge and injections, he stays mostly pain free. I'm just afraid that riding bareback would put too much pressure on his back? I don't ride bareback often, but sometimes especially on late winter evenings I don't want to bother with a bridle and saddle.

I'm sure it depends on each horse. But I got on mine bareback for a short photo shoot and he HATED it. It was obvious it really made his back hurt.

I am like you and dont ride bareback often but I do a lot of lunging and sometimes I will cool him out bareback. I have also loped some circles bareback (maybe 2x a year). No problems and no increased soreness after. But his is pretty minimal and behind where my seat would be.

I was told by my vet no bareback and no treeless saddles.
