Okay, minor vent over, carry on. Just day dreaming looking at nice horses.  Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful for what I have, I shouldn't browse the horses for sale, LOL.

I'm with you! Way back when Daddy still loved me, I could buy very nice horses. Now, I have to sift through a bunch of stuff and find the ones that I can hopefully turn into those very nice horses that I can no longer afford! lol

Oh man, I just saw one(didn't last long) that was SO nice and he was a steal! I really wanted to throw a fit about not being able to afford another horse lol

one of my highs in life is getting a "nothing" horse or a ruined one and making it into something that can win. Used to do it all the time on the h/j circuit. Now that Mommy and Daddy aren't paying for my horse shows anymore and I can't afford h/j circuit shows, I hope to make a few nice barrel racers.

There is nothing more rewarding to me than knowing I made nothing into a great something!!

Yep, champagne taste and beer money...more like ginger ale money, LOL. I like making them too, but the one I really like right now is only $45,000, LOL. But, since I can't mortgage enough to get that, I think I'll be making my own, again, LOL. My mare, that I love, love, love, is one of those horses that I got for cheap and made her into something (with help from trainers, of course) and she is the best horse I have ever had (so far) even though she isn't the fastest. But she is gonna become a momma this year, and my main mount is going to be out of use. So I thought I could find something to run, but am not finding what I can afford. So, I'll probably get another prospect and go the long, hard way. :)

I'm in the same boat! I have to buy what I can afford and put the work in myself. You spend less money and I believe the payoff is greater than hopping on one that someone else made.

Man, if I had the money I'd buy Budlight! Lol. I can't believe Christine is selling him!

I wish I could make my own! I'm mentoring under one of our top 1D girls right now so hopefully one day I can!
I also have my reining trainer for horsemanship! I'm starting late in the game at 26. Learned how to ride in my backyard and just got back into riding 2 years ago, but REALLY got back into it last year.

One day.

Every gas station and the one tobacco store in town today was swamped---like couldn't pull another car into the parking lot or get another person in line---buying tickets for the lottery. We're right on the MS state line, and I bet I counted over 100 MS vehicles at lunch and when leaving town after work. People were parking their cars IN THE HIGHWAY and walking in Double Quick because you could not get another vehicle in the lot. Today (and I'm sure tomorrow) was a boon for our little town because of the lottery.

Sorry to get off track here

There are so many ways to learn horsemanship any more i learn a lot from you tube and dvd's i rode with a woman for many years who was top notch she moved out of the area, now i watch dvd's I've always trained my own, it's been getting harder to find young horses at a reasonable price the horses running are so talented and bred well anymore, i purchased a finished and very expensive 1 d horse and had it vetted and missed something didn't pull blood and check for doping and got burned real good. I sold it for a brood mare for a 1/4th of what i paid for it and went back to starting my own. It can be challenging, frustrating and even heartbreaking!

I know the feeling. I mean, Cash is perfect for me in every way and there is NO amount of money that could buy him from me. And he was a whopping $4k. BUT if I were to get a second horse? Forget about it. I have stopped looking so as not to make myself feel bad.

I love prospects!  nice horses too but I'm thinking even a nice prospect is more of a gamble than a proven barrel horse in the division you want...   the prospects I like are 15-20 g's......

Sometimes they DO fall out of the sky and land in your lap. I've had it happen twice now. Once with the little show mare when my daughter was 10 and just a few months ago with a DTF gelding out of the same mare as my daughter's little Vegas mare. In both cases it was because they wanted these horses to go to a great home that would do right by them. I didn't spend anything close to what either horse was worth. I was just lucky and at the right place at the right time.

For me it doesn't exist...because I would buy 10 more of what my daughter is riding right now...younger of course. . .sigh.  I guess if I hit the lottery, I could clone her a bunch of times.
