Location: Bama | After buying $1k worth of alfalfa bales and it getting moldy within a month, I've decided to go with cubes for now. Closest place for Omnis is 5 hours away. The Standlee pellets I had been getting have plastic twine in them, and the reviews I've seen on their cubes aren't good either (HARD and twine).
What's a good brand of alfalfa cubes? I live in south AL. Has anyone used Top Of The Rockies or Select-way? |

Location: Not Where I Want to Be | Top of the Rockies is a decent product, but not the best by a long shot. It will also be more expensive in most cases.
Hay-Rite, Danco, and Selectway are probably the 3 best commerial cubed producst in no particular order.

Location: Louisiana | We are feeding Select Way and I really like them. I have gone through about 1000 lbs and haven't seen anything but alfalfa, no hay string, plastic, dead mice, etc.
I like that it's just alfalfa, and nothing else.
I like the Top of the Rockies ok, but they were a lot more expensive and have preservatives. Although they would probably be my second choice.
I was really wanting to try the Omnis, but found a Select Way dealer super close to my house. That and the price was the difference for us. I still may try Omnis one day, but for now I'm happy with Select Way.
Also, we feed them dry and the horses haven't had an issue. I can break them up with one hand. Very rarely will I get a "brick".

Location: Bama | I have a totr dealer about 15min away. I found two dealers for select way and hay rite an hour away. After doing a quick search, I think I'm going to try the select-way. It's only about $.50 more and the added chemicals scares me in totr. I'm tempted to try hay-rite's alfalfa oat, but no one is answering at the store :(

How far are you from North Central Mississippi? I think one of the people that buys Omnis from me may be selling some in his area if there is enough interest. |

I am an hour NE of Mobile AL only a few miles from the FL line. I did really want to try the omnis. I may look into buying Select-way in bulk. I just bought 4 bags of it, a bag of oats, and a bag of flax (making my own omnis, or close). 160bags is a lot for 4 horses though. Maybe I can find someone that would go in on halves or something. I only need hay about two months out of the year. They are overweight during the summer. I've GOT to invest in muzzles this year. :(

| I fed Top of the Rockies and my picky eater mare loved them. They are hard so i soaked them for several months, but she wouldn't eat them all at one time so in the winter they'd get cold and sometimes freeze so she wouldn't finish them. I stopped soaking them and she had no trouble eating them-i was concerned about choke but no problems. I'm now feeding Omni cubes but can't say she prefers one over the other. |

| I feed both too. My horses were getting fat on Omni cubes because I haven't been riding. So I was feeding both. I didn't feel like they needed the extra oats and flax. Now that I am riding again, I will work them back up to the Omni cubes only. The ones I am not riding get the Mustang Sally cubes only.
I just wanted to add the Mustang Sally cubes are a couple of dollars cheaper a bag, too, where I get mine. If I'm not riding I feel they don't need the added flax and oats if they are on grass pasture.

Location: Wyoming | I feed alfalfa cubes from Intermountain Famers. They are bright, clean and smell like fresh alfalfa.
I have fed Standlee, and lets just say those cubes suck! They smell old, moldy, are brownish in color and hard as a rock.

To the other poster, for years we only had one brand from Canada that I've seen here in east Tennessee. (Ontario Dehy? Country Max with a white poly bag, green & blue label) . We didn't have a lot of choices like elsewhere. The reason I don't like the kind from Canada that we have here is that every single bag I have tried over the years has had orange string in the cubes. The color of the cubes isn't as green either. I heard of several cases of colic here that they suspected were tied to those cubes. I have fed them when no others were available but I went through them carefully every time I fed.Tractor supply has started carrying an FSI cubes that I think may be from Canada- I can't remember for sure. I tried them a few weeks back because they were cheaper. Although I didn't find string, the color wasn't as vibrant as the cubes from Colorado. |

I fed about 25 bags of those cubes when I was out of Omnis and I was very happy with them. Smelled good and not too hard plus they have the mini cubes in alfalfa or alfalfa/timothy. Not sure why I had never heard of that brand before but they have a pretty good distibution area, worth trying to find if you can't get Omnis or MS cubes. |

Location: southeast Texas | I feed the Rockies cubes. Horses like them. BUT, earlier this week I found a piece of black sheet plastic folded in the cube. This is the second time I have found this. Have been feeding these cubes for over a year. |

Location: TExas | I use Select way. LOVE them. Much softer then Hayrite. My horses have done better on the select way and they did not get hot on them like they did hayrite. |

A few different reasons.
He isn't being ridden right now so he really doesn't need the oats but he is the third horse I've owned that can't handle very much oats or he will bounce off the walls.
The Mustang Sally are $2.00 a bag cheaper.
To me it's giving him a treat and I give him just one scoop of the Omnis at his noon feeding. He gets 2 scoops of the Mustang Sally at his morning and night feeding along with free choice coastal.
