Location: SK | Still figuring out a new horse for most of the 2015 season. Moved in July and he got himself right stressed out but came back around after realizing a big pasture with new friends wasn't so bad! Made a couple really nice runs this fall (in a new area with knowing only a few people). Good chance a big part of that was mental for me. Didn't have the "haunting" of everyone knowing our struggles since I'd had him. Had some family issues in the fall and moving two hours away from "home" was a big change. I was super excited about having more time to spend with my horse this winter in a nice indoor arena. He had most of a month and a half off with the few exceptions of some field riding and had just started playing around with him again when the barn/arena that I'm at burned to the ground (Dec 6)..... So devasting!!!! Thankfully no horses or people hurt but all my tack was inside. My horse was very close to it and that's definitely noticed now as he has been very skiddish of every little thing. Also couldn't find a saddle around with the specs I needed so had to custom order. So won't have a saddle until mid March. Super crappy! Been out visiting everyday and lunging a bit most nights in a field across the way hoping that I can have him a bit in shape once my saddle comes. Bareback might have to happen just so I can work some things but in a big open field is slightly terrifying.
What are some things/movies/books that get you motivated after a tough season?? I have started being more dedicated to working out again and that seems to help a bit. |
