| Okay everyone, I'm not sure what happened to my post but it is gone.
Emma's Marquis is due to arrive tomorrow. She allowed me to pet her while she ate her breakfast. She is still cranky but I would be too if I were sick as long as she has been. |

| Emma is on day 2 of Marquis. She had her feet done yesterday and was awesome! It's so nice that she isn't kicking and biting... thank you regumate!! She was having a hard time and her legs were shaky during her trim but she did great. |

| I believe the Marquis is doing it's job. Emma is shaking her head and stretching out her front legs like she did on Origin. Her eyes are a little droopy and she is tripping again, not rolling and generally looks like she doesn't feel well. I am praying this is a good sign and the final protozoa are being killed. She has pressed her face into my chest a couple of times and just stayed there. Other times she is very cranky, I would be too if I were sick as long as she has been. |

| I haven't posted in a couple of days because there hasn't been much change in Emma. She backslid slightly and hoping that is due to die off of EPM. Poor girl just doesn't feel well. She is slow in her hind, not rolling and lots of head shaking. She is dropping grain and acts like she is having trouble swallowing. I am praying this is all a good sign that we are finally getting everything killed off. |

| Today will be day #9 on Marquis and as expected Emma has become worse. I am praying we get everything killed off this time. She refuses to leave the barn, lots of head shaking, she is weak in her hind and walks like she is foot sore. Again, all a good sign that there is significant die off. Thankfully since starting regu-mate even though she is grumpy, she is manageable without being dangerous. What a journey we have been through. I spoke to the Vet a couple of days ago and the feeling now is that she will make a good recovery. I can't wait to see her "old self" again, I see it in her soft eyes so I know my girl is just waiting to come back me. |

| Trying so hard not to panic. Just left Emma and was literally hand feeding her hay because she doesn't want to move. She ate her grain just fine so she does have an appetite. She acts like it hurts to walk, this is just pitiful. Does anyone know how long this phase (die off) lasts?? |

I'm following several threads on here about sick or hurt horses, and I'm so hoping for good news each time I open them----didn't want to read this about Emma. Bless her heart---at least she's hanging in there. You haven't given up on her, and I think she knows this and keeps fighting. Still praying |

| She is a fighter! She wont leave the barn, she acts like it's too painful to walk. I have it open for her so she can come and go as she pleases. I put hay out in the pasture for her and she didn't touch it, I brought it inside and am making sure she has plenty in her stall along with a heated water bucket. I have no idea how long this die off period lasts but hopefully she will pull through this. I have to think there was quite a load of parasites because of her dramatic decline. |

| my goodness, the ups and downs of EPM. Emma was in the pasture this morning! yay! She is moving VERY slow and still seems to be in pain. Gave her a dose of banamine and will give her more at dinner. Hoping she feels better soon. The head shaking is worse today and she definitely looks droopy. |

just wondering....are you sure the headshaking is related to the EPM? There is such a thing as 'head shaking symdrome' completely unrelated to EPM. It may be worth asking your vet about. Head shaking syndrom is more allergy/sunlight related. |

| UPDATE
Emma had a GREAT day today!! I opened the back pasture and when I went to feed she was in the far back. I called her name and she came running!! I am absolutely shocked how seemingly overnight she improved sooo much. I think we have turned a corner! She is still very thin but hopefully she will start to gain some weight now. Below is a link, not a great video but you will see Emma and her little friend running to the gate. I haven't been greeted like this in months!!

| OK friends, need some help here. Emma is doing great but she has now developed extremely dry skin. She has bumps and flaking where her bridle path once was. Her bridle path has grown out since grooming was stressful for her for awhile. I was rubbing her while she was eating and found the bumps. She also has them scattered in different places on her body. I've never seen this before. |

| She is on 11,000 IU of Vitamin per day. The bumps feel hard and don't seem to bother her. I tried to scratch a few off of her bridle path but she is funny about being touched there. I found more between her ears. they are small but seem to be clustered. At first I thought it was little scabs but it isn't.

There's a spray by Micro Tek which I can't think of. . . My mare has itchy patches sometimes on her neck and this works wonders for her. Smells luscious and works quickly.

| Today is supposed to warm and sunny so I am going to try to groom Emma without stressing her out. Hopefully I can get a better look at the mystery bumps and get some meds on them. She is a hot mess and needs a good grooming, I am hoping she will relax and enjoy it. So far she hasn't shown additional improvement but clearly the Marquis is doing it's job and she is on her way. We still have a long road ahead of us but I am so thankful she is still here and is responding to treatment. I love her so much. |

| Emma relaxed and enjoyed a good grooming! The mystery bumps look like some kind of fungus and have been treated. The only place Emma didn't want to be touched was her lower chest and she made it clear but she enjoyed the rest of it. She is starting to gain a little weight. She is still neurologic but we are still in treatment. Time will tell but I am really pleased with her progress.

| Y'all are too kind. Emma has done the hard part. I'm just so happy she continues to improve. I wanted to cry when she dropped her head and just enjoyed grooming. It seems like it has been forever that she hasn't wanted to be touched. she puts her head over the fence looking for attention instead of pinning her ears and walking away. She is coming back to me and I am so thankful!! |

| Today is day 21 of Marquis. It feels like we have been at this for years. I'm worried because Emma is still neurologic but she is improving. I think it will be months before she is completely healed. She has been so sick for so long. Yesterday she came up to me for a little love.. very exciting!! She is coming around and I am seeing more of the sweet girl I know and love. I think we are both exhausted! ;) |

WOW... Emma is really coming around. She now allows me near her when eating. She is greeting me everyday at the gate and is generally absolutely pleasant!! She is still neurologic but I just know that will heal in time.
I think you and Emma should start your own happy dance
Such good news |

| Right now she is still on Marquis, 11,000 IU Vitamin E daily, farrier's formula, rice bran pellets with a 10:10 grain, regu-mate and free choice loose minerals. She was tripping ALOT this morning but I am not going to panic. |

| Thank you so much!! The best decision I ever made was to not put her down. My gut told me she was in there! It's amazing how many people were upset with me but I just couldn't do it. |

Location: Florida.. | Just to clarify on your Original thread you had clearly said she was Brain damaged on your GOFUNDME.. so of course we all said that maybe putting her down was your best option.. . We really only went by what you posted which to us seemed hopeless.. Her suffering , pain, could not handle her, brain damaged , etc so id not judge the ones that said that ..we here on a forum dont know the real condition . I am sure the regumate helped her alot siince she was on it prior and you took her off it.. so Id make sure you keep her on it..Im glad she s recovering.. the nuero part will take months .. but she doesnt appear brain damaged and doesnt seem to "off" anymore.... and Im glad.. prayers for her to make a nice recovery. |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | You said she was brain damage and was a danger to handle and was a danger to herself and other horses, was in horrible pain and you could not afford the bills and that was why you gave her away to someone that knew how to handle all this, no one on here said to put her down just suggest it would be kinder to do right by her.. Glad to hear Emma is up and running again, theres alot of people on here that have been in your place and we do what is best with what we have to work with, theres people on here that is very experience horsewomen and men and we know when its time, never saw your horse in person so just going off with what you were saying. Yea for Emma, you go girl.. |

| Thank you for that post. When I posted I was not referring to anyone on this forum. I had a lot of negative feedback from local horse people. Daisycake was the only one who supported my decision (she lives near me). The Vets did in fact say she was too brain damaged to recover which is what sparked negative comments. The point of my post here was not to attack anyone but rather to express how truly grateful I am for making the decision to spare her life and give her a chance. I could not have made it through this horrible experience without each and every one of you. Your knowledge, support and advice have been wonderful and I will always be grateful. Soon after starting the gofundme page I removed it so as to not upset anyone. The expenses to save her have been astronomical and I decided the right thing to is to sell my show horse rather than ask for help. She has not yet sold but I am confident everything will work out the way it is meant to. I want to apologize if anyone on this forum thought I was referring to any comments made here. |

| I just want to add, even the posts on this forum about putting her down were very kind and done so in a way of being supportive. You have no idea how much I appreciate ALL of the comments and feedback. |

| Emotionally draining is an understatement in trying to describe this horrific journey. I questioned myself so many times wondering if I was doing right by Emma by giving her more time. When she went to a friend's house because she was dangerous, I continued to pay for her treatment. She only stayed there a couple of weeks before returning home to me. I believe she was meant to be with me through her illness. I was concerned for Mischief (my show horse) and sent her to my trainer's property to keep her safe and so she could be worked without upsetting Emma (another huge expense). I have been borrowing a Shetland pony to keep Emma company in hopes of not stressing her due to changes. Thankfully she and the pony get along great. Because Emma is still recovering I will pay to keep Mischief at the trainer's another month or until she is sold. My decision to give Emma more time was based on my gut and what I was able to see in Emma's eyes and I felt it wasn't her time to go. The recovery she has made thus far is nothing short of remarkable. Regumate has certainly helped her attitude and kept the stress of cycling out of the equation but it is one part of a much larger picture. We are 4+ months into treatments and recovery and in the past 2 weeks I am just starting to see the real Emma. We still have a very long way to go but Emma looks amazing, is gaining weight and is proof that brain lesions can in fact heal. As for the gofundme page, everything stated there was true and when I created the page I was feeling desperate because the expenses are overwhelming. My husband and I fought constantly because of it and he wanted to "stop the bleeding". During the fights he was one of the people insisting I make the decision to put Emma down due to costs, well, I simply couldn't put a price on her precious life and as long as she showed some kind of improvement then I refused to give up on her. I probably could have cut corners and saved some money but considering what was at stake I chose to have more than one veterinarian involved and to cover every possible scenario for Emma's sake. Hopefully this clears up any questions and I am happy to answer any questions if it doesn't. |

| Yes, exactly. I'm so happy with her progress. I have prayed over her, had complete breakdowns crying and everything in between. It has been an emotional roller coaster and I thank God for seeing us through. |

| Mischief will be coming home from the trainer's this weekend. I was hoping to afford one more month to give Emma more time but it's just not possible. I am praying she sells soon so I can focus 100% on Emma. Emma continues to improve and is more playful and energetic each day. She still gets winded easily but that is to be expected. |

| LAST TREATMENT WAS THIS MORNING!!! I am so happy to say I more optimistic each day that Emma will make a full recovery! I'm going to give her about a week before bringing the Vet out for her recheck. She looks amazing, is gaining weight and playful. She isn't 100% herself yet as far as loving but she is sooo close!! |

| **LAST UPDATE**
This is the last update on Emma. She is still slightly neurologic but expected to make a 100% recovery over the next 60 days. I have hand picked a very special home for her where she will receive the training she needs. She will begin training/re-conditioning VERY slowly. I am so proud of my super girl for coming through this. Emma leaves today and she will take a piece of my heart with her, a bittersweet moment but I simply don't have the skill needed to safely re-start her. I wish my brain could stop my heart from breaking but I know this is what is best for Emma. It is a wonderful conclusion for Emma, now I just need to fight back the tears and let her go where she reach her full potential. |
