Location: Never in one place long | Does anyone know if there are alligator swamp tours in any part of SW Louisiana?? We would like to stick close to TX and were originally planning to go to New Orleans but didn't know if we could get the Cajun experience closer and see alligators?? Anyone know any neat town in the SW we could do these things? |

There were a lot of tours in the areas listed there. I used to live in Hackberry and Holly Beach. I had a family member who was the FMO on the Sabine Wildlife Refuge so I went out on alligator counts, etc. and sight seeing, just going along for the ride. Never took a formal tour though. |

Oh yes, Marie Lavaeux, baby. They're the most fun at night, but they have daytime ones too. And graveyard tours. |

Location: Never in one place long | Thanks everyone! Wow, sounds like we will be able to stay in the SW part! I have been to New Orleans twice already but missed the Voodoo tours and the cemeteries! I'll definitely go back someday, just don't have time with this packed trip! :) |

Location: Southwest Louisiana | If you're in swla, head to Cameron Parish, straight south of Sulphur, LA. You'll see alligators on the side of the road. Leaving Sulphur you'll see grass, horse pastures, oak trees and then you'll suddenly see marsh. Everywhere. Keep going and you'll get to the tourism center. It's got a boardwalk type thing that you can walk out and see some alligators. There is also a half mile sidewalk that literally goes through the marsh. You'll see gators on the side and sometimes on the sidewalk. I've grown up here and have never heard of anyone being bitten on this walk, lol. It's called the Creole Nature Trail. There's no guided tour, but you can pretty much figure it out. On your way down there and all around the driveway for the Nature Trail, you'll see people parked on the side of the road. They are fishing or crabbing. Just ask someone where the Nature Trail is if you get lost. Everyone is friendly for the most part. There's just the one main road though, so it isn't hard to find. Sulphur also has a good "cajun" place to eat called Holliers. Boudain, crawfish, fish, etc. It's been fully approved by the locals, lol. |

Location: North Dakota | I grew up in Louisiana! New Orleans can be interesting and definitely a party town for college age people but to me it has turned into a dangerous dump for thugs! I agree with looking for the "Cajun" experience outside of New Orleans! |
