I've lived in the NW corner and I have been in the SW corner for almost 35 years..
If you're into AQHA the Southwest Quarter Horse Assoc is big in Las Cruces area.
If you're into barrel Racing, there's SWBRA in the Belen, and Grants and Farmington areas. There's NBHA too.
Not sure if it's any help for ya.
I've rodeo'd with the NMRA and WPRA in NM as well, and since I'm so close to the AZ border, I've run GCPRA, and NBHA AZ06# and the SWBRA AZ 06#
:)

Central to south NM. The further north you go there's snow. East is windy and west gets snow and wind. But don't worry you can travel from corner to corner in like 3 hours so nothing is too far to make in a day or weekend. Nothing like Texas! I lived there for 18 years too long and thank God i'm back in Texas. Good luck!

Thank you! We are in Texas right now and love it but...hubby has had a heat stroke and our summers are so hard on him. I feel bad he is in the house from about 10:00 am until late evening in the summers. Talked a bit about moving or else buying a summer place somewhere cooler. I was looking at Clovis area maybe.

For events and shows, Albuquerque (more of the four seasons, generally milder winters than the northern part and milder summers than the southern) Las Cruces/El Paso (much warmer in the winter but hotter in the summer) and then either the east or west borders to Texas or Arizona. The Texas area border has the most barrels/rodeo action, and quite a few AQHA shows within a couple hours' time as well. And year round horse racing across the state, with the All American in Ruidoso and two great sales.
