| I ride a 16 inch seat. Being squished into a seat is not what holds you on. It is your weight in the stirrups. In order to get your feet forward, you have to be able to get your fanny back far enough in the saddle, I M 5' 5" about 160. I am not particularly fat but not skinny either. Most of mine is boobs which has no effect om seat size. I do not have thunder thighs either. I will say that it did take me a little while to get used to that seat size but I love it now. |

| I ride in a 14.5, 4"8 (the stirrups had to be adjusted), 115, and I actually am riding in the saddle I've had since I was 9 (21 now) . I wouldn't change anything since it is well broke in haha. I also got a circle y for my younger horse in the same size and haven't had any problems. |

I ride in a 15". I am 5'7 and my weight fluctuates from the 155-165.
I would not change anything. I have about an inch in between my thigh and the saddle. |

I'm sure it depends on the brand, but all the 14's I tried seemed too big. |

| I ride a 14.5" fx3. I'm 5'10 and 160-170. I like to be snug but not trapped. A friend had a 15" circle y (newer but don't remember he style) that felt ridiculously tight to me, I hated it. I also just sold a 14" RS that fit me and in a double j Pozzi i had a 14.5 but could have done a 14 with no issues. |

Location: SW North Dakota | This might sound weird but I kind of like different saddles on different horses... I have a 14.5 Merrill that I like for big, floaty, finished horses. I have room in the seat and the stirrups are hung rather loosely, so I feel like I can be more athletic with my body and feet. I have a 14" Merrill that I prefer for unfinished horses- a little more snug seat with the ability to easily help them with my legs and feet. For the little "crotch-rocket" horses, I like my 14" Cactus (non-endorsed). The stirrups are hung pretty stiff, so I don't get unintended movement. I feel more restricted in this saddle, but it helps prevent them from over-reacting if I move too much while they are a$$-grabbing. I'm 5'6" and 160#- size 29x36 in Rock and Roll jeans. |

I could ride in a 13.5 or 14 inch, but I ride in a 14.5 because I like to roll my hips and move in a saddle. I have at least an inch to an inch-and-a-half between my thigh and the pommel. Personally, I don't like to be too snug. If I am too snug, I feel like I can't move my hips and I end up tipping my upper body. I hope that all made sense. :) |

I really like Courts or Circle Y "The Proven" saddles (the older Proven's, not the newer) but they both have higher cantles. I feel more secure in those sizes, and have about an inch room. |

| I'm male, 5'11" 185 ( Recently lost 100 pounds). I ride a 16" but had to order a 15" to run my young horse in. He is so fast and quick I could not stay put in the 16" on him.. My other finished horse is 16.1 hands tall and 1350 pounds IN SHAPE and I ride him in the 16" with absolutely no problems but he is a big, smooth, style horse so it feels fine. |

Location: NE Texas | You and I have had this discussion privately, but I will post here as well. Just depends on the saddle and the set up for me. I'm 5'8", weigh about 155 and wear a size 29-30 jean. I'm "curvy". HAHA Most of my weight is boobs and butt and I could certainly stand to be in better shape, but don't feel that i'm overweight. In my Jeff Smith I ride a 15" and don't feel like I could ride anything smaller considering the seat pocket and how it's set up. That being said, I am comfortable in a 14" Shiloh Contender for the same reason, how it's set up. I would say for most barrel saddles I would comfortably ride a 14.5, depending on how the fenders are hung. I want them a smidge in front of my hip or right under me, but can't do the slightly behind my hip. A bigger seat does allow me to get and keep my feet where they need to be in most saddles. |

Yes, there are, and they'd be willing to pay you well for that 16. I used to ride in a 16 when I weighed more (I got up to 245) and I had the hardest time finding a qualtity BARREL saddle in a size 16. |

| Right now I am riding a 15.75 Caldwell - I need to order a smaller one as soon as I recover from the huge vet bill I just incurred. I think I can go to a 15 at this time. I am 5'11" and weigh in at 155. Lost over 80 pounds and a new saddle is my reward. No smaller since my legs are so long (38 inseam) and the mechanics won't let me. |

Well that's what I had thought and why I had gotten the saddle...I NEVER saw a quality 16" barrel saddle, so I thought it would be a slam dunk to sell it. Everyone told me how beautiful is was and they wish it was a (insert numerous seat sizes here)" saddle. So now I am going to send it back to Larry and have him make a smaller seat size. |

| I'm 5'8" and as others have so gracefully put it, I'm not 'fat' but could definitely be in better shape. I ride a 16" purely because its what I'm comfortable in. I rode cow horses for a very long time and that's a pretty standard seat size for cutters, so that's what I rode in from the time I was 13. I like room to move and adjust and I just don't feel like I can do that when I'm sucked into a smaller seat size. I have a 14" Shiloh that I won and it is SO darn comfortable and I CAN ride in it, but I much prefer the roomier seat size :) |

| I'm 6ft and 170# with absolutely no booty and I like riding a 14.5 in a Pozzi. I should probably be riding in a 14, as that's what seems to fit me the best with room between my thighs and swell, but I like to have a little more room, and the 14.5 puts me right in the pocket easily. I've tried a 15 and I just felt all over the place, which is a hard thing to do in a Pozzi |

Yes!! I came from jumpers and so a tight barrel saddle made me feel trapped for years! Now that I have a better idea of what I'm doing and a turny, swift colt I need a smaller size. I have three saddles of all different sizes for 3 different horses.
4 year old, small, wide, fast and turny colt- 14.5" Triple Creek
Older push style mare who has the same run every time- 15" Triple Creek
Older free running mare with a huge engine and lots of power- 16" Triple Creek
i used to have a 16" Josey Ultimate that I was just all over in, and a 14.5" Crown C that I just couldn't get out of my own way in. I am 5'6" and 170lbs. I wear a size 32 with a 36 or 38 inseam (My true measurement is a 37.) Most of my weight is in my stomach and that's really the only place I would consider myself "overweight." Of course it affects my riding and is super annoying because I could wear a 29" pants in the leg right now but not in the waist. All weight loss efforts affect all the other areas FIRST before my gut. Uggh.

 Own It and Move On
Location: The edge of no where | It seems to depend a little bit on the saddle brand....but somewhere in the 13.5"-14.5" range. I'm 5'8" and wear 27-28 in cowgirl tuff and rock & roll jeans. I'm all legs. I'm not super picky about what I can get along with. I ride my husband's rope horses in whatever he's chunked up there a lot. I think it's good in a way to keep you from relying on your saddle too much? He trips steers so these suckers have NO cantle... LOL! I think most of the rope saddles are 14"-14.5" but IDK. I do lots of trotting in them and work on my posture staying correct. He's got an old Cactus that I swear I could change the stirrups and run barrels in very easily. LOVE that saddle. Shiloh Contender - 13-1/2" - great saddle, so easy to stay in position. Double J - 14" - attempted to ride 14-1/2" and it was a mess - very balanced ride in the 14" Old Ed Wright - 14" - Really liked it for slow work, a bit tough to sit super deep on a big stout horse. Cogsdill (NRS Pro Series) - 14" - easy to sit right in the middle and get up to hustle Purdy - I've riden both a 14" & 14-1/2". I think I might like the 14" better, but I'm getting along with the 14-1/2" very well. Martin - 14" |

Every time growing up that I had myself convinced I was adopted ;-) I'd take one look at my father and knew it wasn't true...I got my long , wink wink wink, legs from him and my thighs from my momma, LOL!!! I have to be the only human on planet earth over the height of 5'4" with like a 28" inseam. If I had legs to match my body I would have been 6'4"... I need all the gap on a 15 inch to fit them babies in there, and I've wintered well so it may be a tad small here when it dries out enough to actually ride.

I'm 5'8" and weigh 140...its winter so probably more like 145ish, I ride an old Carl Ammerman that has a pretty flat seat, its a 15 in. and a Crates all arounder with a 14.5 inch seat.
I prefer my Ammerman of two, I like to be able to put myself where I want, not get put in a place by a seat. I have one ratey mare that I need to get up over and my gelding who is a free runner but who rates hard, I like to be able to get my butt down on him so I don't get launched from the Mother Ship. I am short legged for my height and thick thighed, so that extra space between the cantle and pommel on the 15 gives my Earl Campbell running back legs some room.
That there made me laugh RNR!!!
Every time growing up that I had myself convinced I was adopted ;- ) I'd take one look at my father and knew it wasn't true...I got my long , wink wink wink, legs from him and my thighs from my momma, LOL!!!

| I'm 5'3, 115-120 pounds or so, size 3-5 in jeans. I ride a 14" ProRider. I like to have a little wiggle room so I don't feel squished in. |

Location: Iowa/Missouri | 5'2" around 150 but working on losing more. I was ridding in a 14 inch Triple Creek but this year will be running in a 14.5 Tammy Fischer. I like a thigher fitting saddle so these work well mfor me. |

Location: Lost in the swamps | 5'3" and a lil under 100# soaking wet... I should prob be riding I a 13-13.5 but I ride in a 14" josey, high pommel and cantle and a flat seat. I like having a flat seat because I like being able to move in my saddle and not feel like I'm trapped and getting a beating from the pommel and spanked by the cantle if I happen to get left behind. |

Location: Somewhere around here | I ride in a 15", I'm 5'3" and around 141-143 lbs right now (trying to lose the baby weight). I've ridden in a 15 actually since the middle of high school. I had a 14 back then and I noticed how my thighs almost constantly touched my pommels and it bugged the crud out of me! I also ride with short stirrups, and with short legs I look silly sometimes but I think if my thighs were thinner (which will never happen unless I get very sick) then I'd be just fine in a 14.5 or even a 14. |
