I bought a small bag of Science Diet today and saw that they had the Blue dog food too, so was checking that one out too. I didnt think about checking out what my vets carry. Do you think the Science Diet is good, what about the Blue? If neither then I will be checking out what the Vets have here.

If the Blue is the one that's all natural and "organic". I can't remember how they label their foods to set them apart from the other brands but it's made a lot of dogs sick since it's so different. So maybe change her over like you would a horse if you decide to go that routeForgot to add that science diet is good. Most vets carry it.

I fed my first Husky SD, and he was a very healthy and happy boy right up to 13 1/2.

Thanks Ladys , I may stick with the SD then, I'm putting new carpet in and dont want her getting sick and will change her over slowly like Dash4kj was saying. I need to check to see if they have SD for the senior small dogs, I just like the way it smelled. I know that its been around for a really long time and that the Blue is kinda new still, thanks for the inputs..

Awww thanks, I'll go back to TSC and take more time to look for the senior, I hate going into TSC and kinda rush threw there, so I'll go back in a few days, I did get the bag of small bites for adult dogs 1 threw 6 years old. LOL and she did gooble that up . So I'm guessing its pretty good.

I rescued a 5 year old shih tzu that was a puppy mill stud. Hes got no teeth save for a few but has severe digestive issues. If your dog is having digestive issue i would highly suggest having your vet pull blood then run a maldigestion blood panel on him. It will tell them exactely whats going on. While it is good to get advice you should know 100% with blood tests before you start putting him on different foods. You can actually be hurting him more than anything.
We have my guy right now on Hill's Prescription Diet i/d Digestive Care Original Low Fat Canned Dog Food, and hes been doing great but again we know what to feed because of the blood work

Good luck!

No health issues, was just curious what others feed their senior dogs, with her getting older I thought it might be time for a change in her diet, theres just so many new dog foods out there I was just wondering what others thought is a good food and what they may be feeding their own little dogs. I just dont want to feed something that could cause a problem later down the road. Thank you

I have a 15 yr. old JackRat and he is a picky eater, very nervous, non-stop energetic and hard to put weight on until I started adding Dinovite to his feed...what a difference.  It adds the enzymes that are cooked out of most dog food.  He's been on it for over 3 years.  I feed a food from Petsmart called Healthy Advantage (sorry, don't remember who makes it)...He also gets chicken mixed in with it that I cook in the crockpot (I know...LOL)...

Your little fella is one lucky little guy, mine is a Chihuahua my son rescued her about ten years ago out of a pound for his wife, now I have her, they came to visit one day about 8 years ago and Dana {dog} didnt want to leave so shes been here with me ever since. So we really dont know her age, so was thinking she had to be in her early teens by now..She is part of the family now..

I have small seniors and I have used both SD and Blue Buffalo, both with good results. I have stuck with the SD because it is a little cheaper and didn't notice a difference in their condition regardless of which one I fed.

Thanks for the reply, I did check out the Blue Buffalo, but I like the pricing of the SD a little bit better so I thought I would give it a try.. All you guys are awesome thanks for helping me here..

I've got to admit that we put my 15  year old Jack Russell on the Silver Lining herbs for dogs (just their general health one, I'll have to look up the name).  She thinks she is a puppy again.  She was a bit overweight and getting pretty wheezy but she's lost almost 2 pounds (I think because she is so much more active) and does not have the breathing problems/cough at all any more.  She runs around so much more now than she was. It has been amazing for her.

We have a 25 year old pomeranian who only has one sideways tooth left, and she gets moist and meaty with her previcox everyday. She doesn't eat much, so one package lasts all day for her.

We actually got her when she was twelve or thirteen, she was rescued from a puppy mill operation and was so sick they were just going to put her down. We stepped up and took her to the vet and they got her all fixed up and she's been with us ever since. She actually lives outside (yes, sounds awful for such a small dog, but she feels too confined in the house and tears stuff up), she has a large yard barn outside that she lives in with a couch and heated beds with our other three dogs. They are all molers and squirrel chasers so they love it outside. Even now all these years later, she will hardly even let my brother or step dad touch her. She just hates men, but with no teeth, she really is all bark no bite. haha

Ya, I've mentioned her a few times, but she's doing most of the work. haha A few years back we thought she was getting near the end, she had a really bad heart murmur and was overall not what she had been, we were not going to be surprised if we went out to feed and find her gone. But we got her on some heart meds and previcox and she was like a whole new puppy - running and playing and chasing squirrels again. I swear by that previcox for every older dog (or performance horse for that matter haha). She wouldn't still be here if not for that. We really thought this winter was going to be hard on her based on how bad her coat was in the fall, but so far she doesn't seem any worse for wear. Still out at 3am barking at her echo. haha

FlyingHigh1454 - 2016-01-28 12:47 PM We have a 25 year old pomeranian who only has one sideways tooth left, and she gets moist and meaty with her previcox everyday. She doesn't eat much, so one package lasts all day for her.
I think you've posted about her before and I thought her age was a typo!!! Never heard of a dog that old. Y'all have done an amazing job.
Still out at 3am barking at her echo. haha

This is the oldest I have ever heard of a dog living, I wonder if you have the oldest dog in the world? I think this would be something to check out.

You should check into that---we may have a famous (REALLY) senior citizen dog on here!

We have looked into it, the oldest dog verified was 29 years old. But there is a dog right now that is said to be 30 years old, but like ours, does not have paperwork to prove how old it is so it will not be recognized. So she would never be considered for title even if she lived longer than that since she was a rescue with no papers.
