I've never done it, but my dad tells me that's how he did it when he was a kid. Necessity is the mother of invention...plus it doesn't hurt to have a really patient horse.

I can't find it, but I saw one and this kid backflips onto his horse with such grace and ease lol. I'd probably break something and get kicked if I was to attempt it!

OH my gosh that is adorable!!! I had a huge mare growing up that was so much fun to ride bareback the only problem is she would try to cow kick if you tried to jump on her. I just shimmied her up to the back of the truck but she got wise to that and would turn away just as I would try to get on her. I then learned to just block her in and bam we were off.

My daddy had a horse when he was young that he vaulted up over his booty to get on. His gf at the time (they were probably around 15 or so) taught the horse the trick. I thought it was so cool and when I was younger I was always asking Daddy how JoAnne got Flash to do it cause I wanted to teach my little mare how. Wouldn't you know that my momma didn't think it was nearly as cool as I did and told us both she was quite tired of hearing JoAnne's name and about "that dam- horse"!!
