| Yeah, the boy is super talented and SUPER obnoxious. Has nothing to do with his race, it has to do with his behavior. I've never been a big Bronco fan but dang, I hope Denver crushes Carolina. (Sorry Carolina peeps). |

Here's what he said: When Cam Newton told reporters Wednesday, “I’m an African-American quarterback that may scare a lot of people because they haven’t seen nothing they can compare me to,”
I have something I can compare him to but I'm trying to be nice today so i can't say it.

| Just, to elaborate on WHY he said what he said. He was asked why he receives a lot of criticism. His answer was perfectly valid. He's not wrong. In the history of the NFL, he's only the 6th African American QB's to make it to the Super Bowl. If Carolina wins, he will only be the 3rd African American QB to win the Super Bowl. He's right. There haven't been a lot of black QB's make it to his level of ability, so they criticize him because it's "new". Russell Wilson was criticized because he wasn't more "showy" when the Seahawks were on top of their game a few years ago.

Why the heck is it OK for he or you or anyone else to ASSUME that it must be racially motivated if we are critical of any African american in any capacity? That's ridiculous...and a cop out. I couldn't care less if he were red, pink, orange, white, brown or purple. He had integrity issues in college and an attitude. He still clearly has an attitude problem. And it's unappealing. I have MUCH more respect for Peyton Manning. Not because he is white...but because he is genuine and humble.
It is embarassing to see the amount of showboating and celebration that goes on from a simple caught pass, tackle, touchdown...whatever. When I was in sports as a kid that was seen as bad sportsmanship. The way so many of them do it now...with their choreographed elaborate celebrations...you would think they just cured cancer. Be humble...and let your talent speak for itself. |

BFD!!! I'm probably going to get slammed for this, but I don't care.
I don't care if he is the 1st african american QB to win the super bowl. Why do African Americans always think they have to be awarded because they are african american? They are HUMANS. Last time I checked, color doesn't make them different, faster, better, smarter, or anything for that matter. He's just another great athlete, just like Payten Manning, or any other football player, baseball player, basketball player, etc. Being African American shouldn't matter. |

We sure don't see Russell looking for attention when he makes big plays. Even Cam's "look at me give a ball to a kid" is still all about him. In my life I have never rooted for the Denver Broncos (especially since the Seahawks used to be in their division in the AFC West) but I will be rooting for Denver to crush the Panthers. |

| Our jr. high and high school coaches always told us to act like we had done it before. If we celebrated, it meant we weren't that good and if we didn't celebrqate it meant we could do it anytime we wanted. Soo, we didn't. We wanted to look like it was no big deal, we could do anytime we wanted. Truthfully, we could. We only had 2 teams that gave us a hard time in girls basketball in our region at that time. The rest we beat by at least 20 points and held them to less than 20 points. |

What he said really doesn't "bother" me much. I would have to disagree though, there have been quite a few very successful black QB's. So, I just don't understand why he doesn't think there has been anyone to compare him to. I could see some validity to the statement had it made about Doug Williams or others that have come before him.

| How can you say that being only the 6th ANYTHING out of about 1600 (32 teams, 50 years of the super bowl) isn't going to bring some extra attention?
You'd better believe if I was only the 6th person out of that many people to accomplish something I'd be celebrating all along the way. Also, Cam and the Panthers are coming into the super bowl with the best record of any of those other 5 teams lead by those QB's. He's also the QB of only the 6th team to ever have just one loss in the regular season.
Is he a little over the top? Maybe? Is it excessive, I don't think so. He's having fun, and he's successful. He's at the top of his game, why shouldn't he be proud of himself? I'll start to worry when he starts to brag about himself like Kanye. Until then, let him have his spotlight. |

Location: Ky | I'm as old school as they on sports and I'm of the "act like you have been there before" mindset normally but I like Cam Newton and how he plays and how he celebrates and his attitude. As Kid Rock says, it ain't bragging MF'er if you can back it up. He backs it up.
He says all the time, "if you don't want me to celebrate then stop me". Football has become a boring sport. They don't want guys showing emotions too much. They will give a penalty now for a "sack dance". It is also a very violent sport. The average career is something like 3 or 4 years. Now they have all the concussion info.
I say let him, and others, enjoy their career while they can. He brings great joy to the game. The "dab on them folks" line is funny as hell.
Having said all that, I hope Payton gets the win. But if he can't, I'm good with Cam getting it. |

As a general rule, exceptional athletes are not very humble, they have to have the fire in their belly to be the best of the best. Of course a $100 million contract sure helps!

I think a lot need to actually watch the whole interview (and maybe watch football for the entire season.)The question was, something to the effect of "why are you and the panthers judged so harshly" AND He prefaced his comments with "I think this is a trick question" "Regardless of how I answer it..." etc.(not exact words) I can't find the official transcript or interview right at this moment. It's bothering so many people because it's true. How many successful black QB's that have made it to the SB??? people are mad because he celebrates (when else is he supposed to celebrate? and how should he celebrate to please everyone?)(are you angry because he celebrates differently than you?)

Haters going to hate!! So proud of my team! They have worked hard and proved they deserve to be where they are. If Cam played for your team, I am sure you would be singing his praises. Go Panthers!!! DAB!!!!
BOOM!
I think a lot need to actually watch the whole interview (and maybe watch football for the entire season. )The question was, something to the effect of "why are you and the panthers judged so harshly" AND He prefaced his comments with "I think this is a trick question" "Regardless of how I answer it..." etc. (not exact words ) I can't find the official transcript or interview right at this moment. It's bothering so many people because it's true. How many successful black QB's that have made it to the SB??? people are mad because he celebrates (when else is he supposed to celebrate? and how should he celebrate to please everyone? ) (are you angry because he celebrates differently than you? )
Should be a GREAT game... but until then, let the hater-ade ensue....
I'm not a hater of Cam or the team. I just hate it when people have to use their color .....good or bad. |
