No pictures off hand but we use hedge posts that we cut, very hard and rot resistant, and continuous pipe fence for our horse pens. We have a barn with an open lean to one side with runs extending out instead of stalls. Horses get more movement, if we have to they are big enough for 2 horses apiece.

Still working on finishing it, we want to add a tack room etc but it works really well for us. We didn't do anything fancy for an isle because we set up panels and work cattle through the isle.

Here is my barn. It's 30x40 with two 10x20 stalls, and one 10x10.

I like how simple and practical the gate stall doors are like you have Murphy.  My barn owner has a similar setup with the gates.  His stalls are in an open style barn and have cinder blocks as the stall sides,  and pipe panels for the front and back.  If I could change anything I'd make the stalls have runs.  I'd keep the footing dirt like he has, but put mats at the front of the stall to have a good spot to throw feed on.  I'd put the auto waters at the back of the stall so the horse has to walk more to get water.  If you're making outdoor pens make them big.

Think about electricity for fans, and also wiring for web cams for monitoring. If you're in hot weather, consider a covered area for saddling up. Wash racks are nice, with proper drainage.

Thank you. I actually bought them at Rural King about three years ago. They are SO easy and much better than chains. My husband did grind off the "locking" part that you could use to padlock it. Here are some:  http://www.bigdweb.com/Tube-Gate-2-Way-Lockable-Gate-Latch/productinfo/987205S/

I live in the Houston area and built for the heat.  My barn is not fancy but I love it.   It is an open concept, always a southern breeze, 15x15 stalls that open to huge pens.   I have a 10x15 feed room that shares a wall with a 10 x 15 hay area, across from that is a 20 x 15 storage room.  We used 2x6's and built high fences that they can't reach across.    I also have a large hay barn for more storage and has cover for the horses.   We added a lean too to the shop that extends 40' and robs the length of the shop for tractors, trailer, etc.  We have 100 acres that is fenced with bob wire and I fenced off a smaller 8 acre area that I used coated wire fencing for.   I put them in there at night if I am not keeping them up, which I only do because of weather.

Keep the ideas coming! Love your barn Murphy! I also like those stall gates. I need. Some hay storage, 2-3 stall, tack/feed, and would like a washrack but that would be a luxury;)

Like said before, depending on what part of Texas you are in, you may need to consider the heat more than anything else.  I messed up and built one like Murphy's pictures.  No openings on the sides, just the two ends, so no matter how many fans I put in there it is still too hot in the summer to leave a horse in a stall.  I realize now that the barn is for my comfort, not the horses.  I wish now I had spent less money on the barn and put some run in sheds in the pasture.  I did put 'wings' on the front and sides of the barn so I park my trailer under cover.  And I can open the sliding door in front without getting drenched.  This comes in real handy when you are loading up to go somewhere in the rain.  One side inside the barn is 4 12x12 stalls.  The other side of the barn is a stall (currently used as hay & tool storage), the feed/tack room, concrete wash rack, then another stall, all 12x12.  The wash rack is open on the ally side and on the outside/wing side so you can pass through there to load horses straight into the trailer and never go 'outside'.

I built mine for the heat also.I have one and a half walls total. ;)  I'm in Florida - it's hot for a whole lot of the year.

My barn is 24' wide and 36' long. I have three stalls along one side, 10x12, with 40' runs off of them that open into my pastures.  On the other side is a 6' x 24' three-walled raised platform for feed, tack, hay, my air compressor, etc. It was my husbands genius idea. He knows I'm bone idle lazy and tend to just stand in a door and throw stuff with a traditional "room". This way, instead of the width of a door to fill up with stuff, I have 24' to fill up with stuff! It works well for me. Once my husbands barn gets built this year and all of his crap moves out, I think I'll have plenty of storage. The remaining 12' on that side is open. I originally intended to tie horses there but I don't - I usually tie in their stalls if I need to tie under cover. I park my car there more often than not. There's also a lean-to off the north side for the tractor, the lawn mower, the extension ladder, etc.

Each stall has an automatic waterer (best thing ever. Should have bought them years ago.) and a ceiling fan. In the really hot part of summer, I put extra fans on the platform that blow across the aisle into the stalls. Very helpful to keep the air moving under there.

My fences are all ElectroBraid - another thing I should have done years ago. It's not as pretty to me as some of the other options out there but it was super easy to put up and is super easy to repair. I've had good sized trees and tree limbs fall on my fences. I take the tree off and the fence springs right back up.
