I haven't used either but it  looks like the 5 might offer more lift than the 6, quicker response, and maybe more shoulder control?  6 has more gag.

I often go to a five bit when a ring bit isn't enough. It's got enough bite, but isn't intimidating and will give you a little bit of lift. It has some leverage since it has a purchase, but no shank. It's got a pretty quick reaction. All are reasons a lot of people use them. They are a handy bit to have. A lot of colts move into them pretty easily.

A six bit doesn't really have any leverage and has a lot more gag, so slower reaction. I've never really liked these. I prefer bits with less gag and a quicker reaction, but that's just me.

What's similar to a 5 bit? Hmm there really isn't anything out there thats similar, but if I didn't have the 5 bit, I'd probably reach for a short shank lifter. Most bits without a shank have a lot of gag and that's what makes the 5 bit unique.

Almost to the bottom of the page, never had a 5 but looks like it would have the same action as a goostree simplicity only with a little "quicker" response time???  The 6 is OK, not a lot of gag or whoa, good step up bit from a ring snaffle.

I want that heart bit on there. It's adorable. Sorry. Off track! I would agree that it has less gag than a 6 or simplicity so would have a quicker response but doesn't appear to be overly harsh. Looks like a decent bit.

This exactly!! I like this as a step up bit from an Oring.
