Location: Arkansas | I'm meeting my vet around 8:30 with my 12 year old male dog, Foxy. He's breathing hard and his stomach is swollen. He has arthritis, so he lays around a lot. But he won't even get up for Chandler tonight. It's cold and only gonna get colder, and I can't get him to come in out of the yard to a blanket and/or heat lamps. You can also see where he's peeing a little while he's laying down. My heart is so heavy cause I'm scared of what she's gonna tell me. Please if y'all will send some good thoughts and prayers this way I'd sure appreciate it. . . . |

Location: Arkansas | She's keeping him overnight. His temp was low-normal, and she could hear fluid in his chest. She's thinking heart disease. . . . She is gonna try to draw some fluid off tonight and will do blood work in the am. After the tests at least I'll know what I'm dealing with and can make an informed decision. He's always been such a good boy--my ex husband picked him and his sister up on the side of the road in 2004 to save them from coyotes---and he's been a wonderful dog from day one. I will not put him thru a bunch of pills or needles if he's not gonna be happy or feel good anymore. I won't be selfish and keep him here just for me. Please pray God's will and for Him to give me strength to make the right, loving, selfless decisions if it comes to that.
I thank each of you for posting---means the world to me to know I have such wonderful folks holding Foxy and my family up. . . . |

Location: OH. IO | Im struggling now with my beagle BOOZER that has heart issues.Hes comfortable on a daily basis,but I know each day brings a different situation.When the times comes for him,It will be most difficult,but he has lived a LONG and GREAT life on our couch,lol.

Sounds like it could be congestive heart failure. My best buddy Rusty passed from it when he was 15. Hoping you get better news! They are here for such a short time but sure take up a big place in our hearts! |

Location: Arkansas | This morning the blood work showed heart and kidney issues, but also an infection. She wants to do antibiotics and get rid of the infection so we can see what we have at that point plus see how he feels. I called at lunch because I was gonna go see him, but she said it might depress him watching me leave him again. . . . So of course I didn't want that. (Probably the only time I'll ever be missed that much in my life!) She said he had perked up some since the meds and she was giving him fluids. Called again at 4:30 and she said he was wagging his tail and holding his head up and eating good. Peeing more of course! But his back legs are weak, which I had seen happening the last week. I thought it was his arthritis worsening, but now I guess it's kidney related. Dr. Albritton said the kidney lays right on top of the muscles he uses to lift his back end up. . . I'm unfortunately learning stuff I didn't want to know. He's gonna stay a few days there to see how he feels from the treatments before I bring him home. (Hope I can stay away and not depress him! His sister misses him terribly; she sat in the yard tonight just staring towards the road. They've been inseparable for over 12 years.)
I will keep y'all posted as I know what's happening. And I will say this---to never have laid eyes on any of you, I feel blessed to have y'all on my side. Today when I'd just want to lay down and cry, I told myself nope cause I knew I had BHW folks on my side and praying. And that no matter what happens, each and every one of you were asking for the right thing to happen and for me and Fox to be ok. . . . That's strong stuff there my friends. |

He's walking better and interacting with them. She's gonna keep him there til Saturday so that I can be home all day with him the first day or so he's home to see how he does. He's on strong antibiotic, Lasix, and a heart med. Asked for the bill thru today to be faxed to me this afternoon----yeah, not a good thing for my poor pocketbook  Gotta work some more nights now to get extra tax returns done to pay for this. But he's so worth it; I want to go by and hug him and give him a chicken treat so bad I can't stand it. I'm gonna have to settle for dropping the treats off for them to give him when I drop the check off in the morning. I truly feel the support and prayers y'all are sending. Bless each of y'all for taking time to think of us during your busy days. Means the world. |

I dropped the treats off today and hurried out before I snuck through the back door to hug him. . . . Andrea said he's the best patient, no trouble at all. Location: Arkansas | Fox won't be coming home. . . Andrea called me earlier and said without daily fluids his kidneys just won't work. So I'm going now to say goodbye to my baby and bring him home for the last time. Chandler went by the vet just now and said he wouldn't pick his head up for him. This is so hard, but I know in my heart it's right. If I can ask one more time, please pray for all of us for the next few hours to be bearable. |

Location: Arkansas | He's gone to a better place now. He was so tired. . . . My heart is so broken, but there was no fixing him. He's always been the best boy, and he was right up to the end. We buried him at Daddy's in our ever growing cemetery. Chandler had it all ready when we got back. I can't stand to see my son hurt, and this is hurting him. We loved that red dog so much----I know I keep asking, but please remember my family today in prayer. |

Location: Keeping up with the numbers! | Debra, I am just reading this update and I am so sorry for you and Chandler. I know how much it meant to you to bring Foxy home. I hope you know I am keeping you and Chandler in my thoughts and prayers today. It is so hard to understand why, but we know in our hearts that they are now pain free. The hardest part outside of your hurt is to see your son hurting. We try so hard to be the rock for our children, but we do need to be able to grieve and hurt as well. I am not going to tell you the pain will go away tomorrow or next week, but I will tell you the thing that has helped me these last two week was remembering and cherishing all the good times I got to have. Sending you big hugs! |

Location: Arkansas | I never would have thought I would have been as peaceful (I know no other way to put it) as I've been since Saturday. . . . Of course I miss him terribly, but I smile through the tears because I know I did the right and best thing for Fox. After we buried him and Chandler got off the backhoe and hugged me----that was the hardest part. He said "Momma he's home and not hurting anymore". Oh I lost it, but knew if Chandler was ok with it then I sure had to be. Some people will think it's corny, but I KNOW every one of you that cared enough to pray for my family and think of us during these past days helped bring me that peace. And I thank you from the bottom of my heart. |
