Location: Up North | I am getting ready to purchase a trailer and have been going back and forth on adding mangers or not. It is a 3 horse slant. Usually it is just me hauling, sometimes one other person. LQ area is roomy-9' SW and the LQ area will just be a shell for now. I know I will have plenty of room for storage between the rear tack and the LQ area. Do I really need mangers? Do I need that extra storage-and if so, for what? I want my horses to have enough room and to be able to put their heads down if they so choose. And should I add them for resale? Do YOU absolutely need/want mangers? Is it a deal breaker? Thanks!

Location: South Georgia | In my opinion, if you are asking yourself what you'd need the storage for, then I wouldnt do the mangers. I personally do not like mangers and will not consider a trailer that has them. |

Location: Oklahoma | For resale value, yes, most will want an 8' wide trailer with mangers. That being said, buckets, feed, your LQ hoses, fans, etc can all be kept in the mangers. |

Trailer is 8' wide.

Location: Displaced Iowegian | 8' wide...YES......you can put all of that "extra" stuff.....blankets, buckets, feed, lawn chairs, etc. that you have to walk or move around if it is in the tack or "smell" if it is in the dressing room area. Right now, you have the room in the dressing room but what happens to all that "stuff" when you build it in. Plus, it is so much easier to feed with the mangers. But it is personal preference.

| I dont have a lot of money, so I couldnt afford anything fancy BUT I knew I liked the CM trailers because they made them extra wide and extra tall...BUT I loved the Brutons because they had mangers and storage. Somehow, God blessed me with a CM, extra wide and extra tall, with mangers and storage. I haul all over in the spring and summer and I wanted mangers for sure. I think it helps the resale too.

| Something I did with my last trailer that I wanted storage for was I put a piece of ply wood on the first stall slant so that I had a stud stall...and I only hauled two horses so I threw all of that stuff in the stud stall. |

There are many factors... how big your axles are will determine the size of the inner fender. You can always taper the fenders up the sides and on the ends so they aren't so boxy. I find that the average horses fit comfortably in a trailer with mangers. There are usually 2 sizes too. 18" or 22" depending on the manufacturer. If you want more room, go with the smaller mangers. I also like outside access doors on every manger. |

| I currently having Lakota price one without.
I have a short horse and actually between the SO, his family, and I the tallest horse is 15.1, the shortest is 13.2. I did the math and the top of the manger would fall above where my personal horse's neck ties in at 14.1. I like to give them as much room as possible to make themselves comfortable and balance.
Storage would be nice, but I am opting for a smaller fridge in the LQ for more cabinet space, plus the stud wall. I will probably buy a nice tote to put in the first stall to store buckets, fans etc in so it won't rattle and bounce around.
Resale value while I understand is something to consider, I'm not going to invest this kind of money into a trailer because someone ELSE might like it better. |

Location: Do I hear Banjos? | We had a Lakota built to our specs and we LOVE it. We went with mangers and I have been amazed at how much we use that storage space.
Couple of options you may consider including:
- Flow through dividers. It's hot in summer and those flow through dividers really help keep them cooler.
-Zero degree axles. We travel some rough roads to some of the places we ride and this will do the job without us having to block the axles.
- We had a drop window added on the rear door. That also really gets good air flow
-Blanket bar under each saddle rack. Just a nifty bar to slide the saddle pad onto.
- 110 outlet in the tack compartment. Handy for plugging in clippers or whatever.
Just a few of the options. We did some nice options in the LQ as well but I believe you are building in your LQ later.

Location: In my own world | If you are building your trailer from scratch get an 8'ft wide trailer with 18" managers in it. I have to same amount of inches head to tail that way as I do in my 7ft wide trailer. Managers come in 18 and 24" deep. My horses can put their head down with the 18" mangers. My horses wear 78" blankets and are 15.1 hands tall |

Location: Too Far North | I have had both. I love the mangers. I can put a bucket of water and hay in there at rest stops so easily and don't have to tie up anything. When we start traveling again I just grab the buckets out through the drop down windows and off we go. The extra space underneath is priceless. All my hubby's tools go there plus horse blankets etc. You can never have enough storage. Also, a 8ft wide is a must.

We have a 4 horse with mangers, and 2 of our guys are 16.3 and around 1300 lbs. They fit fine and travel well in it. (I'm not the "numbers" person---bf is---so not sure what size our mangers are, but they seem big to me!!)
We store any and everything under our mangers---chairs, tent, you name it. Love them

My day trip trailer has mangers, it is an 8 wide
My lq does not it is a 7'6" wide and my horse haul better in the lq, come out more rested, look more comfortable, even when loading. |

| Mangers all the way! I have an 8 wide LQ trailer with mangers and feel that if I had to stop suddenly, the horses at least have something to lean into with their chest instead of slamming their head and neck into a wall. Plus the added bonus of storage, that you will always use, guaranteed. :) |

| I have an 8'wide with mangers. While I love having the room to store stuff in them I always question if my horses health/comfort are being met. The mangers to me are high so for the short horses their heads are above level to eat out of them. Plus the mangers are not supporting their chest for stop/starting. I would like to see a bar one can adjust to fit a horse chest level for them to lean on for support. |

| My personal preference is no mangers, mostly for the horses' health and comfort. A bonus is in an emergency I can head to tail them and put an extra horse in the trailer. I have had to stuff 5 horses in my 3 horse when they got loose on the highway once, by removing the slants and head to tailing them.
Chances for choke and respiratory issues increase if they cannot can not lower their heads and mangers do not allow them to do that. I also think that it more difficult for them to stretch to pee. I prefer either slats or drop downs on the tailside or at least the back door, for airflow, those bus windows are just not sufficient. I have a stock combo with slats on both sides where I can remove or add plexiglass in spring and fall temperature variations. If buying a new trailer, I would rather have an extra stall for storage than storage under mangers. I also prefer the full back door instead of a rear tack. Much easier to load timid horses and could haul cattle if I needed to.
But you get what YOU want. |

Location: Hill Country of TEXAS!! | I have a Platinum 4 horse with mangers with 15.1 to 16 hand horses. They can all get their heads down and stretch out to pee. I know this because one of my horses pees everytime we take a trip to the city arena haha. I dont tie any of them and most of them will have their heads down picking up their neighbors hay although they always have a full bag in front of them.
Mangers help them brace in an abrubt stop instead of their face and neck hitting the side of the wall. I think they are much safer. Not to mention the storage and ease of feeding/ watering on the road.

Location: Do I hear Banjos? | I have the Trailer Eyes Camera. I can tell you they can and DO get their heads down despite the mangers. One is a draft cross and he has no issues. He steals dropped hay from his neighbor. And both will happily pee in the shavings in the trailer. We do still stop and unload when possible on long trips...but I have had both style of trailers...Manger and No Mangers...and have had no problems with either set up. I sure love having that storage. |

| I will not ever buy a trailer without mangers again. That being said, the trailer MUST be 8' wide. I wouldn't even consider a trailer that is 7'6 and has mangers.
Not only is it great for storing cords (for your electrical hook up, extension cords, etc) it's great for buckets, feed, fans, pop up barrels, camping chairs, tools for changing flat tires, horse blankets/coolers in the winter, BOT/PHT blankets in the summer, boot bags, muddy stuff you don't want in your LQ and so on. I like that I limit just my saddles, bridles, and pads to the rear tack. Everything doesn't fall out when I open the door LOL.
It also gives you more room in your LQ too when you go 8' wide.
