| Mine are so bad I don't even want to ride my horses! Just going out to feed gets them riled up. We've been having beautiful weather and I should be out riding and working my horses! Instead I'm in the house trying not to get my allergies going. | |

| My son has really bad allergies, so bad that they started testing him and only did one series before they stopped. The only meds that help him are not really meds but a whole food supplement- Standard Process's Allerplex and abizia. They don't put him to sleep snd actually stop the sneezing watery eyes and congestion. He has tried all the over the counter stuff and the prescription meds. | |

| Oklahoma's allergy season is all year! LOL For reelz..... In the winter it is mold, some kind of tree that drives people crazy, & a couple of other things that are really bad. I can't remember what the dr told me. Then the standard allergy things the rest of the year. | |

Lol I've noticed mine have really gotten bad. I'm starting to think its cause I'm getting older. I'll be 25 in a few weeks, but they've never been this bad. I never remember struggling with them before. I've been taking benadryl, but I'm going to try zrytec (sp) or claritin. I think even the heater in this house gets them going. I've had other ppl putting hay out for me cause the hay gets mine all riled up. By the time I get inside, my eyes itch so bad and I'm sneezing and hacking things up. ( I know, gross) I tried riding the other day and only got one horse rode before I came running to the house for medicine. Its not fun having pretty weather and not being able to ride without having a allergy attack lol

lol... you're getting older, 25, lmao....
That made me laugh. Anyway, you do actually have a point. I have adult allergies and my doctor (who is freaking awesome) said your body goes through some big changes at different ages and mine weren't that bad as a kid.
I had the allergy testing done and did shots for about three years. It wasn't medication, they did a concentration of the allergens I was allergic to and just injected them under the skin every couple weeks for a long period of time. It has made a huge difference without the side effects of drugs.
When mine were really bad, Benadryl was the only thing that would knock the edge off. But, it also knocked me out and I could not function. Claritin and Zyrtec will help some, but if your allergies are really bad, they won't completely stop the reaction. Also, the nose sprays worked very well. And, I HATE nose sprays! But, I can't argue with the results.
Try the o.t.c. nose sprays, like Nasacort. You WILL notice a BIG difference. Save the Benadryl for when nothing else works. Get to a good allergist. It made a world of difference for me.

The heater does make the sinuses worse. Try to turn down your heat as far as you can when you need heat. Too much of it just messes with those sinuses something terrible. Keeps things from moving properly.

Definetly might end up seeing a doc. I've been taking a benadryl almost everyday for two weeks now. They don't knock me out but do relax me. It helps a ton. So could I take a everyday allergy med like claritin and take a benadryl if that doesn't help? I hate taking benadryl everyday but it works amazing for me, especially for fast relief.

I do. I take Claritin or Zyrtec. If I have a big flare-up, I'll take some Benadryl. But, Benadryl, for me, is worse than alcohol or sleeping medicine. It really knocks me out, so I have to really need it to take it.
Problem with Benadryl is, it wears off kind of quickly. If you need to take another dose, the first dose wears off long before it's safe to take the next dose. I do follow the dosage instructions carefully. I also research the heck outta side effects. So, I hate taking the drugs. I'm going to get back to the shots as soon as I can commit the time.

| I try to research any meds I take too. I have a weird quirk about googling things and reading up on stuff before I take them. I've never taken claritin so I'm kind of nervous about taking it. ( my weird quirkiness) I'm always afraid I'll try something that makes me anxious or have some reaction too. Thats prolly why I've stuck with benadryl for so long. Lol yes I know, I'm weird lol | |
