What are some options other than Lasix for bleeders? My friend has a mare that recently bled after a run but she's worried about using Lasix all the time. Is there other options, supplements etc?

Oxygen has several. BLEED X is the one I use. It works. Jen Berry is a rep on here.

I have tried Oxy products and several other products, he bled through them all. I had him scoped after a run and he was still bleeding even though not through his nose- just because you don't see it does not mean they are not bleeding. This horse is considered a mild bleeder and has had long periods of rest , still bled :(. I run him on lasix, 3 1/2 cc 2 1/2 hours out and I paste with electrolytes after every run.

Bleed X by Oxygen as well as Oxygen 2X to repair lung damage. Also give OxyO2 before runs. All drug free and natural without side effects. I was using 3 cc of lasix and now I don't use any. Of course every horse is different- this is just my experience.

Some of us old timers believe your fighting a bio-film cause to a horses bleeding.
Many believe that the reason lasix works is due to the change in the pH. Not just the osmotic pressure changes.
I've seen several known bleeders heal on Shephards Purse and certian Essential oils and herbs. They must be used daily to kill the fungal and bacteria infections. I'll be watching a horse run in the American that I believed had one nasty lung infection it took a year to heal but he's now looking better than ever.

What are some options other than Lasix for bleeders? My friend has a mare that recently bled after a run but she's worried about using Lasix all the time. Is there other options, supplements etc?

I would get the horse scooped after working her good and see why she is bleeding. Could be infection or allergies... I wouldnt jump to doing anything until you talk to your vet.

I have a bad bleeder. I have tried almost everything out there and then some. (herbs, bleeder stop, platinums bleeder product, etc...) When I was trying to figure out my dosing for him and he would have a bleed it would take him about 21 days to heal up to go back to work. Every horse is different but that is what worked for mine. If he bleeds he is off for 3 weeks and then another 3-4 weeks to leg him back up so I am very cautious about mine cause a bleed for me means 2-3 months before I can run again.

This is what works for me. I feed this daily (http://www.bigdweb.com/Yunnan-Paiyo-Bleeders-Formula-1-lb/productinfo/3369/)
Its a 4 month supply for $100. I have NEVER been able to practice mine at home until I started using this. He is also calmer with it. I usually pull up at the third and keep him in hand as he is a hard runner but I can do more with this than every before.

I have not tried to go without lasix as I dont think it would work for him with how bad he bleeds. I do 5cc lasix im 4 hours out and 5cc kentucky red iv 4 hours out. I can get away with still letting my horse drink water with this combo so I stick with what I am doing and letting him drink. He dumps alot of urine with the lasix and doesnt drink enough to replenish it. It works for us. I also do air power about 1 hour out and electrolytes paste right before I get on him to warm up.

Depending on why she bled will determine what you have to do. If she is bleeding from infection or allergies you may just have to treat that and then never worry with it again. Good Luck
