Money Eating Baggage Owner Posts: 9586 Location: Phoenix	I'd go 1/2". The wool is so dense that you shouldn't need to worry about protection for that thin of a pad. Definitely wouldn't go as high as 7/8" .

Born not Made Posts: 2931 Location: North Dakota	My saddle fits my horse perfectly and I use a 1/2" pad. When the fit is good, I don't see a need for extra padding. Less is more, in my book. So then I guess it depends on what you mean when you say your saddle is a "smidge small".
