I'm wondering if anyone else has seen a lot of these new saddles breaking. I've witnessed 2 breaking (new saddles, girths & stirrup fenders breaking) in the last few weeks. I just purchased two of them (Jackie Jatzlau Treeless) in December, spent $1900 on one and $2500 on the other one. I examined the quality of attachment of girth and stirrups on the Circle Y, and I was shocked. The stirrups and girth are held onto the saddle by a tiny, and I mean TINY piece of leather. In the attached pic you can see the little black piece of leather - that's all that holds on the stirrup leathers and the girth. How many of you know of these things breaking? I'm seriously concerned about making my next run in them!
I love the way these new saddles ride, Love Them! But, there is absolutely no comparison to the quality of the Bob Marshall saddles I used to ride. The Bob Marshall saddles are held together by super thick leather and I've never had a probelm, even with the old ones.

Almost looks like vinyl? When it broke could you tell if it was leather? And did it just tear on the bottom of that piece or the stitching tear loose? I had heard after I bought mine back in the fall that they were going to change up the way the fender tied into the saddle. Wonder if this is why? I know a lot of people that have bought the Jackie saddle and none have had problems yet. |

I believe yours would be the polyethylene material. Supposedly it was supposed to be stronger then leather, but from what I heard there were numerous complaints about the material tearing, then I thought they were going back to leather. |

Mine has not broken yet, just have seen my friends' break. Not sure if mine is vinyl or leather; it's black, but looks like leather. Very, very thin and doesn't look like it would hold out long. I'm just wanting to know how many actual accidents from these breaking; I now know 3 locally from new/newer Tammie & Jackie Circle Y's.
I LOVE the way the saddles ride. However, I don't see the stirrup fenders or what's holding the girth on holding up for very long at all.

Location: In the Hills of Texas | If you have a concern you need to call Circle Y. I do know they were using Biothane and they were replacing them if anyone had a problem with them starting to tear. I know some people that like the biothane over the leather. Seems to be a personal preference. I had a new Jackie that I just sold the lady was thrilled it had the biothane. I have another used one that was used pretty hard and there is a little tear on the ends but I consider it normal wear and tear. |

Location: NE Texas | I will check mine too. I know the attachment my stirrups hang from is rectangle rather than rounded on the bottom like yours is. I love how my saddle rides too and prob about to buy another one, but I do agree the quality could be better. Still love it though. |

Yup! I don't know how new that Jackie is - maybe two or three years old? My right fender broke coming into the second barrel. It was really cheap leather and split right at the top. Thank the Lord I was on my big mare who is broad as a barn and smooth-moving to boot or I would have eaten dirt. Lots and LOTS of butt pucker.
I had a local guy make some new leathers for it out of much better quality stuff and I keep a sharp eye on my other Jackie for signs of wear. Those will probably get replaced soon too. |

Circle Y will replace anything on your saddle that goes wrong. I just sent mine back (they had not broken) and they sent me two new ones. |

Thanks, that's good to know. I think I'm going to send both of mine back before I end up in a heap in the arena. There is no possible way you could expect the tiny little piece of black leather holding the girth on to not break. This is a real head-scratcher for me. I've examined many saddles since I discovered this and all other brands have super secure fat nylon or thick leather holding the girth on.

The others' saddles were thin leather or the black substance mine are made of. All of the saddles were under 2 years old, and all 3 tore or snapped in two at the ring. Hopefully your saddle is made different, sounds like it is.
All of these happened in the last 3 weeks in my little neck of the woods in Florida. I just figured there were many other instances and want to hear about them. Thanks, |

Good to know, thanks NJJ. I already took mine to a local saddle maker and they asked me to send them back to Circle Y - too much liability for them. They said the way it's rigged they can't fix it to be "safe", so they won't fix it.

I will for sure have my husband take a closer look at it.
And I know it's something we should all do anyway, but I'll be sure to keep an eye on it. Mine was made June/July 2015 if that helps. |

I will just add that to my list of things I already check each time I saddle up. I was so tired of trying to get a saddle to fit colts and keep fitting them as they grew. Yes this saddle is expensive but I have bought and sold way more expensive saddles just because they quit fitting within a few months of riding colts. Oh, and talk about the quality not living up to the price, check the thin leather on some of those $4000 and up saddles. |

] I bought a new Tammy Fischer several months ago and it seems much better quality than other sports saddles I have, But the first one I bought is 20 years old now still are very rideable and useful, and in fairly good shape, I'm sure the Tammy Fisher is going to last me many more years. All saddles need repairs eventually

I bought a used Just B Natural and it had a crooked tree and I sent it back to the dealer that sold it to me so I understand how you feel. It cost me shipping both ways for that BS and I still tell everyone to stay away from that dealer.
I had a bad Deb Sibley and a friend of mine got one also. I took mine back to the company and they returned my money. She tried to get hers fixed and it was never right and she ended up selling it and finding another.

Biothane is a coated webbing and most of the time it has a shine to it. Biothane reins and headstalls have been around for a long time. It is waterproof.
It's hard to tell by your photo but with it being black, I would say it's biothane. What year was your saddle made? I think it's been within the last year that they started to use leather for their fender straps. It was an option before. The big problem is if you have a thick piece of leather it would be too bulky and you would feel it through your fender. The biothane took care of that problem as you don't need a lot of thickness to be strong.
I'll try to get a good picture of the underside of mine tomorrow.

| I have a Jackie that im guessing is probly 2 and 1/2 or 3 years old. I bought it lightly used. It has the black material for the stirrup leathers and the holes are breaking and at the top where it goes through that ring it started to tear. I put vet wrap on it! lol and it is working well but when the holes rip out im gonna have to send it back. I thought about buying a Tammy (with real leather), but now im nervous that the quality will be just as bad? :( |

Location: NE Texas | I spoke with a gentleman from Circle Y yesterday about this issue. They tried to do a recall on certain saddles, but if the saddle wasn't registered or you're the second owner, then the recall did not get to you. He asked me to share with you guys that if you are having ANY problems with this issue, contact they company and they will take care of it no questions asked. I'm probably going to be ordering another one very soon and he put my mind at ease. At least it sounds like they are standing behind this issue, even though I know they haven't others in the past with other styles of saddle. |

| I spoke to someone at Circle Y about my Tammy saddle and they were very nice and said they would take a look at it and they would pay shipping. Only problem is,it could take up to 4 weeks to get my saddle back. Not sure what I would use during that month. :( |
