I went and saddled up my horse today and I looked at my stirrup fenders where it attaches to the tree and I was shocked to find my leather eroded (maybe not the right word but...) on both sides. I don't think that a tree should ever be showing either. What should I do?

I believe that it is tapered like that so that your leg sits flush against the jockey instead of having two ridges if the leather were to be cut square. I believe that's why it is tapered like that, but I'm not 100% positive that that is the reason..

That is not part of your fenders or stirrup leathers.....that is part of the skirt and frankly looks like pretty shoddy work. I would assume that they skived it down to reduce the leather under the fender. Without seeing it straight on with the jockey held up, it is hard to tell if it is sound. I would be concerned anytime I would find staples hold anything together on a saddle.

Yes I know it's not the stirrup leathers; sorry for not being more specific.
