Why are they different?  Why aren't bike helmets safe enough to use when riding horses?

Riding helmets have a different type of testing done on them. The way you fall from a bike/horse and the force of impact is different too.

I've read there is a big difference. I read that the bike helmets don't withstand the same impact as the riding helmets.

They should make bike helmets better imo. My kids wore their riding helmets on bikes as the silly bike /skateboard helmets have crappy straps and poor fit...
Riding helmets and riding safety vests are ASTM tested and regulated for impact. With a lowest price helmet coming in many colors being 40$ and sometime a little less on sale why would one consider anything else from another discipline? They are dated on manufacture .

I was wondering the same thing. Bikes are probably as or more dangerous. Lots of bikers go much faster, and "normally" on much harder surfaces...concrete, asphalt and off roading even worse, rocks and hard ground.I understand some of the shape differences, but my kids had both (30 years ago) and back then they were vertually identical.
