| I was at a barrel race this weekend and I know for a fact that I ran a 16.596. The barrel race wrote it down as a 16.961 and as a result I am out of the money. I don't have video but specifically remember looking at the timer. Has anyone had this happen and is it common? |

You are pretty well out of luck. And yes it does happen, Frequent...I wouldn't say it happens frequently but it does happen. My questions to you would be: was this an electronic scoreboard you saw your time on as you completed your race or how did you see it? Were they using a computer program and if so was their system set up so the computer plugged in with the electric timer so times automatically were recorded in the barrel racing program? Did they have office personel hand recording times as well as in the computer if they were using one? If so they could compare the two. When did you notice this. On a FarmTek timer system you can go back and look at the last 100 recorded times for errors. But I believe that the system can't have been shut down. I'm not sure as I've never had to utilize it. Errors are made and people are human so therefore mistakes get made. Unfortunate but it does happen. I have been timing when an announcer will transpose numbers and say the incorrect time from what is recorded as official as well. And that can also cause issues because "he announced" such and such. What ever is recorded is considered official. Sorry this happened to you. It can be a bummer. |

| This happened to my trainer and it cost her the 1D average. She did however buy her video. It had the announcer and the timer display. The producer said they did not make mistakes so she sent them a picture of the timer display. This moved her from 7th place in the 1D to 3rd and from 2nd to first in the average. The producer finally agreed that they had made a mistake and sent her the difference in money for both and they ordered her another belt buckle. This was big barrel race with 1200 entries. This was not the only mistake they made so it is wise to have someone video for you or pay for your video. |

She's saying she saw the timer display with her own eyes and it said 16.5 the results showed a 16.9 |

| Yes, I had it happen to me and if I didn't have a video, I would've been SOL and out of a check too. Fortunately they watched my video and made the correction. |

| We've made the mistake! Unfortunately it happens, it just takes the one person entering into the computer, to enter it wrong. Most of the time it's not caught until someone says something. We always have the announcer write the time down(that way they don't call the next runner until the time is recorded), and then someone else is keying it into the software. If a time comes into question we have what the announcer wrote down to compare. We've never had both the announcer and computer person make the same mistake at the same time, therefor we've been lucky to find our mistakes! Mistakes happen, it sucks, but it does! |

Location: 31 lengths farms | Its happened to me. My mare ran what should have been a 3rd place check in the 3D, not only did we not get a check, but we werent listed on the results at all so got no points either for end of year. When I called to ask what had happened I was told first I got a no time because I must have hit a barrel. All the NT's are listed at the end with a 9 in front of their times, I wasn't listed there either. When I told the producer that and that I had a video with my time announced and clearly displayed she somehow magically found my "results card" and my time was announced wrong, it was 3 tenths or something slower. I know that it isn't what is announced, its what is displayed, I've clerked enough races and rodeo's to know that rule, you are to write down the display not the time announced and the display was clearly a 16.452, not a 16.7 something that the producer was trying to tell me I must have ran. I told her I could bring her the video, she said she didnt' need to see it, when I asked then if I could get my entry fee paid for the next race, little local jackpot, she said no, when I asked if I could get 3 free time only's the answer again was no. So I stay away from that producers races. It kind of shoots me in my own foot as they are normally the only ones that produce during April and May around here. |

Location: Missouri | I think I know which race you are talking about if it is in MO, which if that is the case may just have to check it off to them being a first time producer. The change in pay out (advertised as .5 splits and paid out on .5, .5, 1 splits) cost several a check as well.
Sorry this happened to you.
Hopefully they took notes and will come back better next year. |

| This has happened, but usually the numbers are just inverted. I would have to question if you saw the timer correctly. I could see them announcing or writing down a 16.956 or 16.569, but it is unlikely they would be so far off to write a 16.961 from a 16.596. I have worked in the booth many a jackpot and have never encountered a completely different number. Usually 2 of the numbers get switched. And with 2 people (announcer and time keeper) one of you will have the correct time to back up what the contestant is saying. If not, then video would be needed to verify. |

Location: Canada | I've had it happen to me and it's happened at a race we've produced. Sometimes things get marked down wrong sometimes there are system errors. We're all human and sometimes these things happen. What makes the difference is how it's handled by the producer. When it happened to me it didn't get me a cheque but it did change my average so I qualified for short go. We didn't notice it until later so I was out of luck.
When it happened at the race we produced we immediately fixed the error and offered free exhibitions to the racer at the next race for her trouble. We changed the way we input things since then so it was a lesson learned and we haven't had a mistake since (knock on wood).
Unless you can provide proof (video) that the time was incorrectly recorded there isn't much you can do except be happy about the smoking run you had and try for it again at the next race. |

Location: Northeast SD | Unless you have proof you are SOL. I've had wrong times and results that show I've tipped a barrel. Showed both the video and they made the correction. They simply cannot take word of mouth as dishonest people can go up and say they ran a faster time. |

Location: In the land of peanuts and cotton | Happened to me at a big barrel race with 600+ entries. I had video except my mom cut the video off without recording time. We knew what it was. Me and my dad both looked at the timer board when I came out and they called it out right just didn't put it in right. I don't remember the exact time but for example if it was a 15.123 they put in a 15.213 but since I didn't have the video proof I was SOL. |

But the rodeo association would not ask her to return it or order me another.

That's terrible! Yeah, I would feel stupid knowingly claiming someone else's buckle! Did they not tell her? At a finals, it was announced that I had won the 2D saddle. I went to the bathroom, came out, and they announced they had made a mistake, someone else had won it. I won the reserve buckle, which was beautiful. The person who won had kept track and caught the mistake. I'm glad she did, and thankful that it was before I had already carted it home! Moral of the story: stay out of the bathroom till you get your prize! lol |
