Location: SW North Dakota | I've overnighted at the fairgrounds in Valentine, NE before, but I can't remember if there is a contact to call ahead? It will be late at night on April 12.
On the way back, I've stayed at (I think) Farmer's and Rancher's sale barn in Salina, KS. I remember it being very neat and clean, and the people were SUPER nice and accommodating. Is this still the case? It will be late night April 16th...
I feel better when I have a solid plan and no one is gonna yell at me! haha.

Location: Roping pen | I am the VP of the fairboard at Valentine. You are more than welcome to use whatever you need. There is a cash donation box by the new covered stalls (big barn with the tarp sides). Or you can use any of the pens around the arena. Several electric plug ins located just inside the new stall barn.
We have removed the pens between the barns that people have used for years for overnight stays. We are in the process of remodeling this area.
Don't worry to call as gates are always open.
All we ask, is to spend a little money down town and make sure you mention how great the fairgrounds are and that is why you stopped!!!!! So if you need to fuel or eat, please mention us!!!!
Thanks and safe travels.
On another note, we always stay at Concordia, KS---north of Salina a ways. The fairgrounds there are on the northeast side of town---take a right at the bottom of the viaduct if I remember right. Always quite, appears safe, and typical outside pens around the arena. Never had have issues. They don't have a donation box that I have found, but I try to go around and pickup trash or help in some way.

The fairgrounds in Valentine is AWESOME!!! My son (age 15) is taking this trip with me, I am so excited to show him "life on the road." Part of this is reminding him to be respectful of "open doors" like Valentine- leave some money, making sure things are as clean (or cleaner) when we leave. Thank you for the information, we REALLY appreciate the hospitality in fabulous towns like Valentine!

Yep, and Nick is taking Scout along so he can rope calves for a couple days to get sharpened up for Fargo. I'll have Matt back just in time to let him sit for 2 months while the kids rodeo. HAHA.
