Location: Phoenix | I don't have Pentosan Gold, but I do have another pharmacy's compounded version of Pentosan plus glucosamin and condroitin. Vet initially gave it in muscle per my request. He wanted to administer in the vein but I insisted and he complied. I know this has been given in the muscle before. He called the pharmacy and they confirmed that they prefer to give in the vein as there have been some reactions documented when given in the muscle. My horse didn't have one but we did give injection IV after that. There's another thread from a couple months ago that talks of this exact thing. I think there's many users that do give it in the muscle without issue. |

| It does say IV but I have read everywhere on here that people give it IM. I gave it IM 2 days ago and my mare's peck swelled up like a balloon and she was sore. I always give IM shots in pecks and have never had any reactions like what I recently had. I'm giving it IV next week. |

| I believe in the add online it says either way. I have given it both ways, I think you get a better result IV. My mare shook her head some when done IM but no swelling or heat.

| I have bought mine from different places. I wish I hadn't thrown away my empty bottle because I usually am pretty careful to administer as per the label. I was just wondering if I had been mistaken all this time. |

Because the first time I bought it, the directions said IM, and I haven't looked again. I have given 6 shots out of this current bottle now, all IM, and had one reaction. I may go on and start doing IV since the label apparently changed. Except on my dog--I don't know how to hit a vein on a dog. |

| Mine always said IM but they now say IV. I emailed the company and they confirmed IV now. I had given several shots out of this bottle IM with no problems but i will go IV from now on i guess. |

| I've given 3 shots IM to one mare, and have not had a bad reaction.
I'm not doing IV, because I'm not a nurse and couldn't find a vein to save my life, so I'm not gonna go around poking holes in my horse for no reason. I'm seeing good results with doing it IM, so its not a waste to do it that way.
Also, my vet recommended doing them IM. |

Just wondering, does your bottle say IV or IM. I have always given them IM and prefer that way,but the last bottle said IV. So,I'm letting my husband give it IV because he is good at it and I'm chicken! |

| I'm chicken to give IM, so no way could I give it IV. But my
Bottle says IV, giving it IM anyway. I specifically asked my vet if it was OK to give it IM even though the label says IV, and she said absolutely for this product. May not be true for all other things you may want to inject, but pentosan is fine. |

Location: IL | I have been giving IM, my one mare had no issues and she's gotten 4 IM injections. My other mare had 2 slight reactions, but I don't think I have the needle deep enough. She kept moving on me, so the last 2 IM shots my husband kept her distracted and I was able to keep the needle up to the hub and she had no more reactions. Mske sure you have atleast a 1 1/2" long needle and when you give the shot the needle is deep all the way to the hub. And always don't reuse needles and if you drop one, get another. |

I have been giving it IM for years, and honestly I read the direction once when I got my first bottle and haven't looked since. Just on the basis that I have been ordering the same exact stuff for a few years now and from the same compounding pharmacy. Hmm, I'll have to look tonight when I get home. |

Location: Louisiana | My vet was of the opinion that if my horses have been fine IM the whole time, that I could still give it IM. He said there are other meds out there where they're advised to give IV, but he said they're fine IM for most animals. |
