I purchased this mare last spring, she has been though 7 owners and thought I would give her a chance. since i really had no idea on her pass. I got a hold of the first owner and trainer and gave me the 5 yrs and what she had done with her, so felt she had good basics on her. took her to 6-7 barrel races and went through no problem, the last race of the year we had warmed her up and was on the side of the arena waiting for the drag, started to walk towards the arena by herself and out of the blue went backwards ran into to vehicles then laid down , we took her saddle off and she laid there until was asked to get up. I'm in my mid 50's and was hoping for a just a good mount not looking for a 1 d horse just something to have fun. How do I get my trust back in her? nothing had changed saddle pad or otherwise.

I am in my 50's, too. That would have shaken my confidence also. I would have a vet go over her with a fine tooth comb and have a chiropractor/massager look at her to rule out any health/pain issues. Then if all is good, have a trainer help you out. I would also consider something for her nerves/upset stomach on competition days. She maybe like my horse who internalizes his nerves until he can't handle it anymore and explodes. I hope you get her figured out.
Had she been turned out prior to you purchasing her? Old issues resurfacing? Good luck with her, maybe she has had a very hard past :(. A good trainer is probably needed.
Had a friend whose horse had something like a seizure. They never figured it out. Got rid of the horse. I often wondered if it wasn't HYPP but the horse was not Impressive bred. You might check that out. The fact that the horse has had multiple owners sends out a warning to me.
