Location: NE Texas | I spoke with them last year after finding my gelding displacing several different times with several different scopes. We finally did an exercise scope and in 10 minutes he displaced 3 times. His glottis was always inflamed and vascular looking and he was displaced upon insertion every time. I spoke with the makers of the collar, and they didn't feel that it would be beneficial for a barrel horse due to the different head positions etc during a run, but they also said it had not been tested in anything other than track horses or on treadmills, so basically in straight lines. They offered to let me buy one and return it for a portion of my money back, but at the time I had already invested a ton of money in vet visits and really didn't have the extra money to spend on it.
I think it would be interesting to test it in a barrel horse if there are no underlying conditions that could be causing the displacement. I just couldn't justify spending the money at the time. If you choose to try it, i'd love to hear about your results. |
