Anyone else ever have a 5 year old ( she was a May baby) that still had that gangly kind of look to them? She's race bred and I haven't seen any siblings or the dam but from their race records they all seemed to be late to mature at lease athleticly. I am wondering if she will ever lose that baby look or if that is just her. She has nice conformation but very leggy and not much bulk.

I've had several that didn't really bulk out until they were closer to 8...I wouldn't stress it unless there's a health or conformation problem that should be evaluated. Some are just late bloomers :-)

Thank you I was thinking she would eventually but my farrier and the barn farrier were like oh she's 5 she looks two
My 5 year old also looks still gangly. Infact I was just looking at him last night in the cross ties and was like for petes sake are you ever going to widen that chest out. His mama has a chest that could knock down the barn. I don't do many pictures cuz he is just so unphotogenic to put it nicely. I just keep waiting.........

I think my 5 year old looks little, she was born April 10th. She actually has matured a lot over the winter. She is still narrow but starting to look more horse like at least!
My current barrel horse is super tall; 16.2 maybe 16.3 and is ALL LEGS!! He didn't really grow out of his "sea legs" until he was about 8. When I purchased him in his late two year old year his front legs almost came out of the "same hole," but now he's 10 and looks completely normal. I'm super glad I waited on him because he's hella athletic and super fun to ride:)

I posted about mine on here when he was 5. He looked so narrow through the front, was still hip-high, and looked like his front and back belonged to two different horses! Everyone told me not to worry, and this year (at 6) I can see that he is filling out and really coming together. Finally. lol! These pics are last fall (late 5y/o). He was in pretty decent shape. But, even after being turned out all winter, I noticed yesterday that he is bigger and better muscled than ever! I need to take new pics for comparison.
