Looking for suggestions on companies that will insure a 14 year old reining mare still being used for competition. I have been told some companies won't insure when they get to be that age. The horse would be a lease so insurance is needed.

I have never had a problem until they were 18, and if you already have insurance on them they just increase the price. Have had several insurred at 10 to 18 yrs. With several different companies.

Thanks for this post! I got a letter that this is the last year my horse will be reinsured without "substantial" increase in premium due to his age. He is 15.

Justin Insurance will insure Full Mortality up to the age of 20. They also have medical endorsements available. The rate starts to increase at age 15. Hope this helps :)

Most insure up to 15yr without any additional rates. After the 15th year they usually go up a percent and more as years come. Just be sure and always read your policy after say the 18th year. Exclusions seem to increase with horses after that year.
Give your agent a shout and always ask. I try to write about these type questions each month in two magazines. Thanks for a great question.
