| I'm having some serious saddle frustration issues
I need to find something that fits myself and my horses
For my horses they are all cowhorse bred and wide wide and mutton withered, water holds in their backs and my saddles tend to roll without being so tight the wind is sucked outta them
for myself I sit and lean to far foreword, I sit too straight and I need something that's going keep me deep
So far this is what I've tried...
Martins (different sized gullets)- put me to far foreword but I loved the fit on my horses
Cactus CJ- currently have this, fits my horses nice but has a stingray seat and sends me too far foreword
marlene - no and no
pozzi wide and regular - didn't care for the fit on my horses but didn't mind the feel for myself
coats original - currently what I have - don't mind the fit and the feel for myself, if feel very secure in it
I think I want to try a Tami - I tried it on my colt and shes the one that has troubles with saddles rolling and it rolled on her, but I think I would like to try it on the other horses
my futurity mare is catty and quick, I will admit I've slipped off the side of her a few times, which is why I want a saddle I'm secure in! her speed scares me
I think I like my cactus wide for the best fitting saddle! doesn't leave a mark and nice even sweat marks with a thin pad
can you guys help me out.. I can post a couple pics of my horses if that helps..

| Try a Bob Marshall Original Sports Saddle. You can have them made for wide horses. |

I have a Tami Semas wide, LOVE it so much but my mare is butt high as well, so I couldn't get that to work on her. As much as I tried because after riding in it I can't ride in anything else. I ended up getting a Double J The Duke, Wide and it is fantastic.
ETA: I had a CJ Cactus that fit this mare, but I couldn't ride in it to save my life after riding in a Tami.

| I may get flack for this, and I know some people HATE treeless saddles, but they do work great on some horses and riders. They sit you down too and make the rider feel very secure. I'd just borrow one and try it to see if you like it.
Lynn McKenzie has a fairly new saddle out, the special, nueva, and wide. I have a couple of tough to fit horses and she sent me the trees to see if they fit and was super helpful. I sent them and email enquiring about the samples and she just called me from her cell phone the next day, we chatted about what may work and what I should try. It was actually pretty cool to have the actual saddle designer on the phone. She wasn't pushy or anything. May be something to consider also. |

Location: Wisconsin | I have a DTF bred gelding who is 16+ hands and is like riding a coffee table. The only thing i have found that fits him is that Just Be Natural Saddle. I dont like treeless, but this looks like a normal saddle..and as far as sitting deep? It makes this old lady feel like i could fall down at barrel do a somersalt and head to the next barrel without missing beat. Good Luck. Actually its the horse in my avatar

| If you like the gullets on the martins, if you haven't tried a fx3, I suggest trying one as they are designed to sit you on your pockets not the crotch like the crown c.
Katiemac would be a good one to talk ross I know she switched from the crown c to the fx3 |

Location: TN | I have two suggestions - I've struggled with getting thrown forward too. One horse is built down hill, super wide, and drops into his turns. The only saddle I've found that keeps me sitting deep (secure I the turns) but still able to get up over him is Martin's FX3 with flat bars and a wide gullet to fit him. I've decided to retire him from running barrels though so I have the saddle for sale. I also have a Reinsman Xtreme Molly Powell saddle for my more narrow high withered horse. I love how it has a flatter seat than many barrel saddles but I'm not sure it would work on my hard dropping horse like my fx3 does. Although the narrow horse bucked with me yesterday and I felt pretty secure lol.
The FX3 really is perfect for this type of horse that throws you more forward. I went through several saddles before I found this perfect match for him.

Location: NE Texas | I'm loving my Tammy Fischer and my Jackie Jatzlau. I've never been a full time treeless person, but that is all that is in my trailer right now. Thankful to no longer be grabbing for leather at the first barrel anymore, thanks to Nevertooold and to TrackinBubba for the recommendation on the Jackie, which led me to the Tammy. |

Location: Oklahoma | I have the same problem! My mutton whitered horse is also wide backed. I got a double J lynn mckenzie wide and love love love it. Doesn't roll, I don't have to have it super tight and it holds me where I need to be |

How do the martins fit a high withered straight back horse? I have a mare I'm saddle shopping for. I have a crown c with a wide gullet. It's too big for her and I don't like how wide it feels. I would also like to get my feet more out in front of me. So I had considered an FX3. Martin has good quality saddles. I have a double j and am not impressed with the leather quality |

Location: Oklahoma | I don't have a short stouty all my 3 are 16h , and biggest guy is 16.3 and tanky. However 2 of them think they are lil cowhorses and drop to 4 wheel the barrels , so it is hard to sit the big drop then the launch out ! Got tired of trying saddle after saddle .....Treeless is all I have found to stay secure. I think JBN might be what you might like if you like the feel of a treed saddle, it's an experiment thing as to what the rider likes, whereas as long as you get the width for the horse they are fine imo . . No rolling for us ( and much easier on my body). My horses also move and turn waaaay freer. |

I think if the gullet is the right width for the horse (or at least close) they work great! I had an 8" gullet crown c a few years ago that fit just about everything with a few pad changes. The FX3 is great for keeping you back where your feet won't get behind you and the wide swells really give you something to grip. It really helped me get my feet out in front of me more. |

| Love my Caldwells, I used to get thrown forward on my front end horse but my Caldwell solved that problem. They sit you like you sit riding barebsck bare back and mine has never slipped. I ride with an extremely loose cinch at the house.

This is my pick too, very similar feel to a pozzi, but you won't have to take out a loan to buy it lol |

Location: South MS | for a deep seat.......Stoney, Caldwell, or a Pozzi (my favorite is a Stoney) - wanted to add that the Stoney isn't a really deep seat, but boy does it make you feel secure! and fits my tank really well (now have the wide tree for her - had the medium/regular tree, loved it too but didn't fit her really well)

| Double J Lynn McKenzie as mentioned before there are several different trees I'm betting the LM Wide will work for you. |
