I can't imagine that the feel of either would be that much different to the horse.  Perhaps the broken one just has more freedom for head movement??  My concern with the broken one is it looks like it would be bulky and flop around too much.  I'm not a huge fan of tie downs, I've only ever had one horse that ran in one and that's only because she was an ex-roping horse and balanced on it in her turns. With her, a tie down is just a necessary evil.  Regardless, #203 would not go anywhere NEAR one of my horses under ANY circumstance.

Yes, I wasn't pointing out those two examples to buy just to show people what exactly I was talking about.. Someone said the broken distributes pressure better, wasn't sure though so thought I'd ask here. Couldn't find any threads or reads about it on google.

I've always used a plain leather tie down on my gelding. I'm not a fan of rope or wire nose.  I would not use either of those choices.

My horse is a bigger racy build and uses the tie down for balance. I leave it fairly long so he can still stretch out.

I think everyone is misunderstanding my post lol! I'm not looking to buy either one of the tie downs I used as a example.. Just wanted to know the difference between one that is broken VS one that is not, regardless the material. Sorry for the confusion, I hope I worded things better
