What, if any, difference is there when a saddle is listed as a trophy saddle? Is just because it was given away as an award and has things engraved on it make it a trophy saddle, or are name-brand saddles that are trophy saddles of lesser quality?

Yes, Trophy saddles to me are a saddle with writing on them, whether it be a name or an event or a sponsor. I don't believe they are any less quality!!

Trophy saddles don't bother me, but I have heard alot of people will overlook a trophy saddle regardless the make (even martin/double J) because they are a trophy saddle.

A Trophy saddle is a saddle won at an event and has the events name on it and what area it was won in and the sponsors name is sometimes put on it.

Thank y'all... I am looking at a trophy saddle, but just want to make sure it is the same quality. Having sponsor name or event on it won't bother me!

What brand is the saddle, as long as its a good brand I would go for it if it fits you and your horse.

Is it an original Tod Slone or a Diamond S? I typically thought the trophy saddles were Diamond S and not an original Tod Slone just because a Diamond S is cheaper..

That was exactly what I was wondering if they were different?? It has Tod
Sloan stamped on it.

And, glad you said that because I went back and it does have the Diamond S stamped on it, too. Thank you!

Depends on the brand, some make their trophy saddles of lesser quality materials...have seen it with my own eyes.

I won't buy one sight unseen, although I've had enough issues with saddle fit I'm not inclined to buy anything without trying it on first if it's used.

The Diamond S was actually the original Tod Slone I believe. The difference is in the tree. The saddles that are now labeled Tod Slone have a lasered tree. I have owned many Diamond S saddles and they are pretty near as good as the TS.

I have a friend who loved their Tod Slone so they bought a Diamond S to save some money and ended up sending it back because it didn't compare to their TS even though it was supposed to have the same tree in it

I won one of the TS back in 2001 and have used it a ton and it is still in great condition. Very well made! I have sold all of my other trophy saddles because I could tell the quality wasn't there.

I bought a trophy Tod Slone practically brand new for dirt cheap, best saddle I have ever owned. The leather is VERY thick but it is VERY heavy.

From what Sloan has told me the Original Tod Sloan are all custom made from the tree to the tooling.

The diamond s are factory made

That is correct. But the older Slones were not originally on a custom tree. That is what I was referring to when I said "original".

The last time I spoke to Sloan was last week and the old saddles the trees were hand made by a tree maker, there were only two sizes. The only reason why they switched tree makers is the guy died.
