Can someone please kind of explain what type of horses you would ride in with this bit and why? Cheeks are around 9" long. Not bashing the bit, just curious. Have this bit in my inventory but never used it.

I have that bit. I used it on a horse that was a " Free runner" to his first barrel but PUSH STYLE to the other 2. I mean he would haul booty to the first and you really needed to set him for the turn but once he started the turn he was very " Bendy". So the shank gave me the set I needed and the slight gag kept the bend. . Then on other 2 barrels I just barely even touched the rains. Put my hand in front of the horn and kicked. Hope that helps!
