Bleaching socks will do nothing but waste bleach.

It's a fungus, treat the foot kill the fungus.

That's what my husband says too!

There are also creams and sprays that work as well.

Any suggestions for good cure for athletes foot? I already bleach socks.

easier just to pick up some foot fungus or jock itch spray (same thing) from wal-mart or your local pharmacy (non-prescription). Clears it up after just a spray or two. Good luck!

Very uncomfortable stuff. My doctor says use creams not spray. Tinactin is good

Thanks everyone. Last year he had it I went through the whole spray twice a day for weeks like the instructions said, so hard for a young one!!!! Thought there was maybe a magic cure like vinegar or tea tree or something.

A doc told my dad once to put all the shoes/boots that you wear regularly in the freezer for 24 hours. Cut out sugary and yeasty foods/snack. Apply Lotrimin AF to the infected area three times a day.

If it gets bad enough, and under toenails, the fungus will hang out and re-infect.

Going to the Dr, you can take an oral anti-fungal and get rid of it for good.

Like others have said, clean up your shoes and wash socks inside out.

 how old is this he?

If he's in HS and is an athlete the trainer should have an industrial strength anti fungal that will knock it out

Also sounds like he may some foot washing supervision as well.

I would also put some sort of powder in his shoes if his feet sweat constantly.

I agree, I have had athletes feet for a long time--- peeing in the shower has not helped it any! :( stinky feet for life lol. I have also tried the spray you put on them and that didn't do anything but make my feet feel powdery

I use Diatomaceous Earth. Dries it up quickly and takes the itch out. Also put some in my shoes. You can also use it on a rash on your behind. I occasionally get a rash there in the summer time when it is hot and humid.

The cream treatment is best -- and also working to keep you tub and shower disinfected and clean. It will take a couple of months at least of twice a day treatment with the cream -- it's tough and you have to be dedicated. There are sprays you can use to spray inside the shoes / boots and I'd recommend using it, too. Bring out all the big guns and fire for several months. And once it seems to be beat back - keep using the cream once a day for a long, long time. Good luck!

diatomaceous earth in your shoes. Change socks frequently and use a different wash cloth each day. Keep his shoes on the porch outside when hes not wearing them. Id take him to the doctor. So email mentioned keeping the tub clean. Good idea. Feel better soon, little guy!

I saw this in Readers Digest.....
Treat athlete's food.Because vinegar is a potent disinfectant, soaking your feet twice daily for ten minutes in one part vinegar and four parts water may help treat this fungal infection.

Dry shoes also help.  Spend the $$ on a shoe/boot dryer and put your shoes on it EVERY night.  When you travel you'll miss your shoe dryer.
