HI! we know we are dealing with a TMJ issue on my mare. She's a grinder. She gets adjustments and accupuncture regularly but what options are out there for daily maintenance? I see BOT makes a head cap - anyone have experience with that helping? other options/products? exercises? Thanks!
I keep a PHT Fly mask on my mare as well as having her worked on by the chiropractor regularly. I still hear the joint popping/clicking off and on when she chews though. So not sure how much the mask is helping her.
My big mare was diagnosed with Head Shakers based on symptoms she was having, bobbin her head constantly, rubbing her face on her legs insistently, couldn't stand pressure of any sort on her poll or nose. We put her on Cyproheptadine which is a antihistamine and it worked well for her but I was afraid of the side effects, colic incidents and lethargic to name two. She had had her teeth checked numerous times, her ears, her nose and with her issues that was not fun for anyone let me tell you. I had her hair analysis done and it came back with showing some TMJ issues, I put her on ENC Joint Plus herbs as it helps with inflammation and was hoping it would give her some relief which it did nicely. She could be ridden again though you couldn't really ask her to collect up or into the bridle. When I tried the Cur_ost for my other horses I had order the Green for my gelding who was having some soreness issues and the Stomach for my little high wire act mare, worked well and I ended up moving them over to the Total Support and since I had other two products I decided to use it on the big mare, OMG, what a difference! She can now collect up again working into the bridle though for short periods which are getting longer. I have found that the Green seems to work better on her TMJ/head issues but the Total Support gives her more gut and calming support. She is a schoosh under 17 hands and had been having the issues for about 2 years so her topline and underline had gotten very weak, I started her on the Cur_ost last NOvember, she is now able to hold her collected trot for about 50 yards in deep ground at the trot, still building the lope up, we are at about 20 yards right now and can hold the collected trot in a barrel size turn for 2 turns.
