I'm looking into feed through fly control. There are no other horses or cattle around me, so it's just my horses. Is anything effective for sand flies (noseeums)? Or can anyone recommend anything? They're awful at my place.

I used fly predators for a number of years but still had a ton of flies and used a ton of fly spray, fly masks, etc..this is the first year I switched to a feed through (I am using Simplify) and have already noticed a greater difference ... for the good. Grant it, it's only May and the super warm weather hasn't kicked in, but the population is down to almost nothing. I will also add fly a fly trap or two just to catch any adults that may survive.
I was a little apprehensive in trying a feed through because of the chemicals (I tried garlic too) but figured the amount of fly spray being absorbed through their skin was probably just as bad ... so far I'm pleased

I use fly eliminators from arbico. For no see ums I just bought the fly spray in the bright red bottle - ultra shield red. Its the only one I could find that said repels no see ums. we have about 10 head of cows and 2 horses. Still have flies but alot less. I thought about using the feed through but what does it actually do? Also my horse is picky so the less I have to feed him the better!

I use Simplifly but I actually don't think it matters. I also breed dogs who have been known to eat horse poop so I was concerned with its safety and if it could cause problems in pregnant *****es. My dog vet looked into it and said it was incredibly safe, he was very impressed. Said it appeared a dog could eat a whole bucket of it with no ill effects. So it is safe stuff.
(Hahaha, funny that it starred out the name of female dogs!)
