| Hi everyone...I've decided I'm not wasting my money on feed thru joint supplements this year. My horse I run doesn't require any injections yet..she's young..but planning on hauling hard this year. I would like people's opinion on Adequan dosage please. I've heard so many and I'm not real sure how frequently to give it now. I just bought the 7pack vials, and going to give on every 4 days for the loading dose..per my vet..I know some say just once every 7 days.
But once I'm done with loading dose, do I still give it once a week ? Or like once a month? So confusing on what I've been told. I want to keep her feeling great and hoping to do this as a preventative. Thanks. |

| JMHO I wouldn't give adaquan until your vet says your horse needs it. You say she is young, how young ? Why haul a young horse that hard to need adaquan. Adaquan or any joint supplement injection is normally used on an older horse or a horse with problems again suggested by your vet. But to answer your question, do the loading dose & then it is once a month. But if you don't have to inject your horse, why do it ? Talk to your vet or if you feel your horse isn't working to his full potential. |

| Adequan is an absolutely PERFECT injection for joints to use as a preventative!!!! It preserves the cartlidge inside the joint. Why would you wait until your horse has problems?? Once you get inflammation and arthritis in the joint it's harder to manage!! I do 2 complete 7 vial loading doses a year 6 months apart. This is better than monthly. Hope that helps. |

I do what my vet suggests. He was one of the guys who developed adaquan.

| I agree with Flitastic that it's excellent for prevention on a younger competition horse. The manufacturer loading dose recommendation is a shot every 4 days for 7 shots IM. I do that followed by a shot every 28 days. For basic prevention and maintenance I only do loading dose about every 12-18 months or, if I've slacked on the follow up shots. If a horse has a known issue, I'll do the loading dose more frequently if needed. |

Location: WI | There are a few different ways people use it... #3 is the most recent way my vet told me to use it.
1) Loading dose, then 1x/mo 2) 2 loading does per year 3) 48hrs before an event, lasts about 2 weeks - varies by individual |

I did the same thing for my younger horse who had no problems; simply as a preventative. Certainly can't hurt! (*Although I chose to use the cheaper alternative of Pentosan.)
For Adequan, the two different respected lameness vets that I use both tell me to do the loading dose initially, and then maintain it by doing an injection once per month. I know there is some controversy out there on how often to do Adequan, but that is what both my vets have told me to do, so that's what I do. |

That's what we've normally done. |

Adequan works on all joints throughout the body but, it will depend on what level of damage and what you're trying to achieve as to what the best injectible joint product would be best. Your vet may recommend this, or something else. |

| So now my next question is WHO has the single vials in stock?? Wow, there's been a shortage since March I'm told?? I tried Valley Vet, and Fosters & Smith, and one local vet doesn't even have any. I had a 7pack I'm just about done with for the loading dose..so I'm wanting to buy a couple 5ml bottles now..anyone have any idea of any place online that actually has it in stock? I never heard of it being hard to get till of course I want it. |
