Hey, I have a pretty neurotic horse, but I love him to death and would never think of selling him. He is currently my mom's but I would like to start riding him. He is just very nervous and high strung. He was abused earlier in life until we rescued him. I've been looking into TTouch and I wasn't sure if it really works or if it's just not worth my time. If you know how to help me with this, give me a message back. Any advice would be appreciated.
Sure couldn't hurt. While I agree that you probably need to treat him for ulcers, I think it is just as important to try to find out what triggers their anxiety. I have an internal worrier and I have treated him for ulcers and keep him on a herbal ulcer prevent along with Adapt and Calm from Cur Ost. But I believe it is just as important to find out what I need to do to help him feel confident and safe with me. So I am reading Dr. Deb Bennet's ebook, The Birdie Theory. It is about horses not birds, lol. I am also going to learn to do the Masterson Method on him and actually thinking about trying the TTouch, too. Good luck and if you go with the TTouch, update us if you don't mind.
I think any type of ground work (stretches, massages, hands on type relaxation, etc helps to.. round pen off the line some joining up and basic stuff.. let the horse learn to trust you and be calm in situations... almost parelli type but not..
