Location: East Texas | Yellowstone was awesome. I also enjoyed Beartooth pass. I think it is about 11,000ft. If you go through Cody, the museum was pretty interesting. I think they have the largest collection of US made guns anywhere. Lots of western painting, photos, art, etc. If you are a history buff and passing through, the Little Bighhorn Battlefield park might be worth it. |

All of these are really good. The Fetterman Massacre site is pretty cool too. Just south of Sheridan, Wyoming. |

| Jackson Hole is a must see. I thought Teton National Park was better than Yellowstone.
We spent 2 days there. The first day we came in and drove around 1/2 of it and visited Old Faithful. The second day we drove around the north half. It was a LONG drive at 45mph. Hayden valley was amazing. Our big moment was going on a trailride just outside of the park in MT. |

I just read that after extended efforts to get the calf back into the herd, the mother rejected it and it was euthanized. :( This was posted on the Yellowstone National Park FB page.
Stupid freaking people need to be euthanized. |

That's very close to the exact route we took in the same amount of days only backwards.
Make sure you hit Devils Tower monument. That's amazing! DO the walk around the base. Not sure where you'll cross, but the Bighorn Mountains are beautiful! We went through Buffalo.
Deadwood is a cool place, but we just drove through. We were going to go back this summer, but a few things at home made us change our minds for this summer. Mt. Rushmore is cool too. Make sure you see the Crazy horse monument. We were going to hit Bear Country attraction this summer as well. |

Location: Always on call..... | We are going this year too. First Cheyenne for Frontier Days Sun and Mon. Then driving up to Jackson Tues AM. Will stay in Jackson until Fri afternoon. All the hotels in Yellowstone were already booked, so we'll just have to drive back and forth from Jackson. Planning to see Hayden Valley and the central plateau. Everyone recommends the Beartooth highway but I don't think we'll have enough time to do it. |

No way!! My hometown is Bondurant, just a few minutes from Jackson. There's a gorgeous drive from Salt Lake, you just catch Hwy 89 from I15 and follow it all the way to Hwy 26 to Hoback Junction, then head into Jackson. Gorgeous drive.
You're going at the right time of year, too. The heavy crowds are gone, and it usually hasn't snowed yet. My favorite parts of Yellowstone are the mud pots and hot springs. Have fun! |

Different strokes I guess. The best thing will be that september will be peak elk rutting season. Should see some giant bulls out pushing the cows around. Be sure to take a good camera. |

Location: Arizona | I live about 30 miles from Bozeman and went to Yellowstone for the first time last summer. It is beautiful, but the tourists are a bit of a trial to deal with. It is entertaining watching & guessing who will get attacked by an animal... Lol many just have no common sense and think nothing of trying to walk right up to buffalo and elk and bears like they are in a petting zoo. We just made a day trip so didn't get to see everything. Came in through West Yellowstone and left through Gardiner. The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone is beautiful, as are Mammoth Hot Springs. The Hayden Valley provides excellent buffalo and elk spotting, as well as some geothermal features. Didn't make it to the geysers on that trip but would like to go back to see those. The constant stop and go traffic and road construction get old, but there is a lot to see and do. |

Make sure your rental car company will let you drop the car off at a different location if you are planning on flying into one place and out of another. Sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. Might not hurt to check before you get the whole trip planned. |

My advice... No matter how you go, once you get north of I70, be very careful driving in the dark unless you enjoy eating safety glass with your venison. I'd shoot up to I90 as soon as possible so you can decide if you want to trip through the Badlands in SD or go see Mount Rushmore and/or the Crazy-Horse monument. Take I90 west to 14 and that takes you in the East Gate of Yellowstone. Do your thing there and go out the south gate to 26... use that to double-back to I25 and take that south along the Eastern slope of the Rockies.. Enjoy your trip and please be careful of the deer on the roads. They grow them big out there. |
