MYSTERY LAMENESS- again. Let's say the horse's front feet x ray clean, flex tests do not show anything is off, blocking the heels 2x does not change movement, but in a roundpen or on a circle there is a slight head bob/ occasional stumble. The horse has had routine coffin injections and she is about 5 months out since her last set. In august 2015 she had shoulders/ coffins/ ankles done and was placing in the 1D. By February, she was stumbling in runs. She *does not* have EPM. I started her on Pentosan and tight joints plus + pht. Where should I look next? Go back to the ankles and or shoulders? She was sore in her shoulders/ across her back Wednesday at her vet appointment. She has been palpated for suspensorys but did not show lameness. Where would you look next?

Live blood cell analysis. My mare had mystery lameness in her left shoulder and it was linked to ulcers. Found through live blood cell analysis. Omeprazole wasnt working because it was so deep in the hind gut and her immune and lymph systems were blocking it. My blood guy is also a naturopath and solved the issue with natural supplements. Zero issue in her shoulders anymore :)

I'm sure you have but just in case - have you checked your saddle fit recently? A change in her body condition could be causing something to pinch her/limit movement through her shoulders and making her sore?

Also does she travel square when you ride her or does she drop her shoulder or shoulder in when you're riding her in a circle?

She travels square and the saddle fits, she was sore over her low back, the vet was sure that it was from conditioning (I'm not so sure). I had the saddle fitted to her so thats not an issue.

Check her insides and gut health. I know this sounds like I'm a loony tune, but I've got one with liver problems. When those started being addressed, everything else that was 'wrong' with her starting righting itself. Joint pain, lameness in her right front, shoulder/back pain, it's all been getting consistently better. She never flexed off, couldn't see anything in radiographs/x-rays/ultrasounds, but she was visibly off. Sent in a hair sample and started her on Equine Natural Care products, and her overall health is on the up-rise. She's also not 'lame' anymore.

I swear I tried it as a last resort. It sounded a little out there, but I thought "what do I have to lose? She can't get worse...." I didn't FULLY believe until my vet AND chiro noted on how much more sound she was traveling, how she wasn't as muscle tight/sore, and that she was "out" in far fewer places than she usually is. You probably could have picked my jaw up off the ground when my chiro (who has always been the most blunt about her lameness) told me that if he hadn't known she was off before, he would never have guessed it now! But it makes sense. If the inside isn't working properly, the outside probably won't either!
