Another young barrel racer is in desparate need of prayers. Jacee Thomas from Georgia was involved in an automobile accident yesterday involving a collision with a train. She is in a Jacksonville hospital with a head injury and could use all the prayers she can get. I'm not certain how old she is, but she is one of the most genuine, sweetest young ladies you could ever meet, and a very talented rider. They are keeping folks updated via facebook for anyone on there. |

Her ICP at one point did reach the 30s but they were able to get it back down to the teens. She's is still in very critical condition and the next 72 hours will probably be the worst. |

Update: Jacee's pressures are rising and starting to stay on the increased range- around 21. We expected this due to her entire brain having a bruise on it. The sodium solution they are using is starting to cause the salt content in her body to remain a bit high so the Dr's may discuss other options of medications to use today. But we will continue to update with any further information.
All we can do is wait and pray!

Thursday at 0930- I've been getting many questions on what actually happened to Jacee. Jacee had a direct impact on drivers side with a train (train going roughly 38 mph)
The tracks are very near her home driveway, and they have to cross these tracks numerous times a day. The tracks have no guardrails. Jacee had just crossed them to go to her home and was leaving again when she was struck. Side airbags did deploy. Jacee was then life flighted to shands for treatment. I hope this helps clear up some questions. Please continue to pray for her!

Location: Somewhere between raising hell and Amazing Grace | I cannot copy and paste from my phone but the most recent update is jet ICP has been steady this afternoon at 17-18. They are going to attempt a scan at some point. Normal ICP can range from 5 to 15 so I am hoping this is good news. |

Location: Somewhere between raising hell and Amazing Grace | As of today not a lot has changed. With any head injury there are constant ups and downs, fluctuations, good moments and bad moments. They ended up removing the device that measures the ICP because all the scans contradicted what the device was saying, and the devices sometimes are not an accurate measure of the ICP. Its all very tricky. If I understood the update from today, they have now weaned her off all sedations and the wait now begins. I believe she has continued to remain responsive and was moving her right arm this morning. It's been a week today since her accident. They say she is still considerd in critical condition but stable now. I think she will remain critical until she starts to wake up. I do believe she is still on the ventilator so that her body can just concentrate on healing. |

She's off all sedation and her body is still functioning so at this point only time will tell. As with any brain injury, anything can happen and alot is never known until the person starts really waking up.
Jacee definitely needs those prayers. |

Location: Somewhere between raising hell and Amazing Grace | Todays update states that they started some minor therapy with her (exercises to keep her body in motion to keep everything healthy as possible) and that she is doing well but gets easily agitated. They are in the process of trying to wean her off the vent completely. She has a trach but has been breathing on her own. ?It's simply a waiting game more then anything. She had a significant brain injury with "shearing" (separation of the parts of the brain). It sounds like her brain and her body are trying to heal. She may never be the same person, she may recover completely, or she may only recover partially.....only time will tell. She definitely needs prayers. There was another young man from her home town, Brett Crews, invovled in a serious ATV accident the same day. He is finally showing signs of improvement as well! Would you all mind saying a prayer for him as well? |

Update:
The village is ROLLING STRONG this morning! Lots of love and visitors today.
The nurse (Alma) said that she seen Jacee open her eyes this morning. The family hasn't see this yet, BUT she DID! She also sat in a recliner earlier with assistance, at least she got out of that bed for a little bit. Jacee is now back in bed and having some storming. To be expected, they messed with her a bunch. She had a busy morning. Hopefully those connections are rebuilding in that head of hers....
The pneumonia and lung issues are still being addressed, antibiotics given, and the bed chest CPT (vibrating bed) is being done. She still has an occasional fever that is being treated with Tylenol and Motrin when needed.
Jacee's mom fanned her while she was in the chair, she said she has always wanted her to fan her, so now she will, happily??. Jacee received some massage therapy on her arms, fingers and hands today. This helps move some of the fluid around in her arms and hands. With her laying still all that extra fluid just kinda sits and causes her to get "puffy". Just from the lack of moving around. So she was massaged and fanned!
Today we pray for strength, new pathways, new connections, new highways, calming the storms and endurance! Remember this is a marathon not a sprint. Each day all we ask for are small improvements, and so far we've had more good days than bad.
While we are facing our own struggles let's take some time to remember all the lives lost and ones recovering from the tragedy in Orlando..... Prayers to all of these families in their time of need!

Update:
Just a quick little update. Miss Beth just came out and told us that she is resting WELL! The storming she was having has subsided at this time. Also they have changed her pain medication to one with less of a kick. Meaning she was on a strong pain medicine and now is on one that's a few levels down from what she was. So that's a move in a positive direction. We are trying to keep her off the stronger one to help with less sedation. WBC's are decreased 16 normal is 4.3-10.8 (kicking that infections butt).
She is RESTING peacefully right now??...

Jacee has stormed most of
the day, but her AWESOME care givers watch over her keeping her comfortable and safe. We just checked on her and her fever was coming down a little which was helping with the storming. Her heart rate was coming down some as well. We pray for a calm and restful night for our baby girl!! Thank you for your continued love and prayers!! May you ALL have a BLESSED night!!

Update:
Ever hear the saying "bad days make the good days better, tVp." Well we are going to have days that are not as great as the last and won't be the worst either. Hopefully we are way past the worst days. But it's ok to have not so glamorous ones.
Today is one of those days that's just "bleh". It's not terrible but we've had a few better. And if we don't tell you about the bad, then you won't know what to pray for. They can't all be good, that's OK, it's part of the journey.....
Jacee has stormed today. Heart rate and temperature has been sporadic with ups and downs and a lot of "ish's". So today she had another chest X-ray and it still showed the infection pocket around her lung and another CAT scan was done. The verdict is~ they have to go in (surgically) and scrape out the "orange peel" type material that's formed. The pockets of thin pus have now turned into a more gelatinous state, which then turned into a thicker material (like an orange peel) around/on a part of her lung. So if u think of the smooth lining that allows the lungs to move in and out smoothly. Yeah, not happening on that one side. When you have an area that is full of thick infection they sometimes have to go in and scrape that out! (When it gets to this stage of an orange peel texture) We think this is actually great news. NOW we know what's up and how to FIX it. This will allow her lung to EXPAND all the way and work properly. The Dr. has advised that the infection IS under CONTROL. We just need to get this cleared up so her lung (one side) can inflate and deflate normally. This patch of rough area isn't allowing the lung to work correctly. It's always nice to have a direction or a path to go along. We now have that path for tomorrow.
Now to a little good news. The CAT scan on the brain showed it appearing in a more normal state. Instead of it looking swollen and hard to see the crinkled lines of the lobes. They were shown the scan today and they can now start to see definition of lines(lobes). it's looking more normal in other words. Swelling decreased.
We will update in the AM as soon as we know how surgery went. But please pray for smooth sailing, a swift procedure, steady hands, and calmed hearts! ??????????????. We hope they kick this infections butt in the morning????. At least get a good running start at it.
Please continue to pray for endurance and strength for the family! Healing for our Brantley kids. #brantleystrong.
Our Hearts and prayers go out to the Orlando families as well tonight.
Brett is continuing to HEAL! And they are trying to pull him off of more and more things(not sure of exact "things" but I'll leave it right there and accept that's it's forward motion). So this is very reassuring! ??????????.

Update:
Well we mixed it up a little today! She had some rest with a drizzle of storms. Nothing major, but what is kinda cool is that they have started the weaning process of a few medications. This may possibly cause a small storm here or there due to her being so sensitive to changes, but that's why they are taking it very slowly. BA feels like we are still gaining ground..
Their tech has been amazing, her name is Folly and she calls John "papa John"??.
Jacee's been more "aroused" today. NOT to be confused with awake! But meaning eye opening, more facial expressions, and moving her body around. No she's not talking or tracking with her eyes "yet". We hope after the Baclofen pump is placed we can begin to get her off more of the medications that can cause her to be more sleepy.
Today Beth had visitors from Ocala, Fl. -Beth and Clayton Keith and they had a beautiful visit. Jacee was storming a little at the time but they were still able have a nice visit. More family is coming tomorrow and also John will be back. He's been working hard in the hay fields and they have LOADS of hay!
Beth has been OVERWHELMED with support. People haven't just said they will be there, but have STOOD by the family and shown love and support. It's taught her that people really do stand by each other.

Beth Ann also wants to put a SPECIAL prayer request for some family and friends that are going through a very tough/trying time and they need prayers for comfort.??????
