Location: 31 lengths farms | My 15 year old gelding is built to be front heavy and will turn heavy on the front if I dont' keep him shod properly as well as really work on moving correctly in our slow work. I use a Pretzel on him, not because he needs that much bit but it allows me to be light with my hands while keeping him up off his front end. We work a lot of collected trotting, stop back, etc, making sure he is really using his rear end and not just burying his nose and "pretending " to be collected in the face only. Did I mention he is a little lazy to boot?? LOL!!! Slow work at the lope on the turns I try to emphasis stood up and square, hip slightly in. Counter arcs especially moving forward in them at the trot seem to really help get the idea acrossed to him of nose in, ribs lifted and hind leg reaching up under him with lightness in the front end. |

Location: 31 lengths farms | When I long trot my gelding I have to do the same thing...it is a full body work out to keep him long trotting and still not dumped on his front end..he tends to get stiff in his neck and shoulders though if you just let him trot along and not keep his head low and nose tucked reaching into the bridle.
Big thing I found too is finding a bit that he will stay off of and not lug on you. |

Location: Florida.. | How old is he? Id suggest not putting to big a bit in his mouth if hes under 5 or so.. Id do alot of ground pole work and low poles....to get him to use his front muscles seperately and build up strength ..If they are stiff then lots or suppleing while your long trotting..get him loosened up... I have found Alot of times (not always) the horse is weak on hindend and this will help with that as well.. long trotting not collected then short spurts of collected , lots of halfhalts in between to get him to transfer his weight to hind end.. long trot, halfhalt , then collected for a few strides then release to long trotting.. you dont throw him away but keep his body under you.. it takes time to get them strong enough to carry his weight on hindend.. and be lighter in front.. there are exceptions of course to just heavy horses but that will help and if hes young then thats one reason why...another is rider.. make sure you arent hanging in front.. keep your own body in balance.. and sit tall. ask with your seat and legs to get him to move from behind.. into your light hands.. patience is a key factor but like i said some horses are just built that way ..just my personal experience and opinion..:) one more thing... Id do stretches with him.. on ground before you ride and after..

Location: Phoenix | To keep one off the front end I like to lope straight lines, but then break down into a trot in between changing leads. Really keep them powering through at the trot and don't let them dump on you. |

| What kind of bits have you had luck with i can't seem to find the right. Fit, all mine are for light horses who naturally traveled up underneath themselves, i rode the same bloodline for twenty years, o rings he gets low and noses out , don't like the way he feels in nose ands he gets feeling stiff my friend a successful 1 d trainer had me ride in a tie down and a rope nose combo and he felt stiff. I've been using a stabilizer and and a draw gag off and on and he feels better. |
